toprock on step-by-step DVD - 07-18-2005, 03:10 AM

i watched the bboy DVD Step-by-STep whatever its called

anyways on teh toprock part, the dude says ur not allowed to lean backwards when u step to the right and left, you MUST lean forwards.

ok i thought bboying was a creative dance style
why the hell is this guy setting up rules of what bboying is or isn't?

if you watch the chico event thing on the master disc, u see this black guy doing some thing that's not even dancing, he seems like he's high.

is it just me or does it seem like this DVD is hypocritical.

When they say not to lean back, they mean to get the right kind of look. There are a few ways that beginners tend to make mistakes in the same way - this is just one of them.

BBoying is creative, but on the basic steps if your technique is wrong it's going to 1> hurt your dancing in the future when you build upon the basics ad 2> look wack.

No, the DVD isn't hypocritical. It's about the best instructional video you could spend your money on.

Dunno what you mean about the chico event. I'll take a look when I find that disk again.

And there are certain rules of what bboying is and isn't.
They are less like rules and more like a general blueprint or framework. Within that framework you have your creativity.

Creative? Yes.
Totally freestyle? Less so.

Peace.

A bboy without style, is like a broken pencil.

There's just no point.

Hey that dude who looks high is Frosty Freeze, and he's an old school legend man. He's pretty dope. Yeh sure he might do some things that don't appeal to you, but does it matter. You yourself said Bboying is a creative dance, and from what I know he is pretty creative and original.

He's talking about Frost Freeze???

Dude - Frosty Freeze is (as Cliche said) an oldschool legend. He invented the suicide (so far as bboying is concerned)
He moves funny because (as far as I know) he's smashed himself to pieces with such an extreme signature move.

He's definately a bboy though - and a dope one at that on a good day.
