04-08-2005, 07:01 PM
hi guys
well i dont read much in these forums nor do i post much... anyway im just really down and fucked up about my wrist: im breaking now 4 about 2 1/2 years and i got some power moves down (millz, ninetys, headspinn ,swipes, 1 round airtrack) but uhhh see whats missing ? flares!!! im so much fucked up about them i try them 4 about 9 months now and i only got 2 - 3 rounds... and i think this move kills my wrist!!! Since i started to practise them my right wrist (especially the part where the thrumb starts) hurted more and more... i had to stop already 3 times to break .. each time 4 1 week coz of the pain... i really warm up much but strechting the wrist also hurts... coz of the pain i cant practice flare very well... it just sucks.. and im really frightened about going to the doctor because he will just say stop breaking... GUYS I CANT STOP AND I WANT TO GET FLARES DOWN!! its just that im pretty frightened that the wrist will force me to stop doing what i like 2 do the most!!! i dont know why im posting it here it wont get better coz of doing this but yeehh im really down .... ty 4 reading this and sry for my bad english im actually german |

just see a doctor. i doubt he'll tell you to stop, he'll just give you advice.
where one of them wrist guard thingys (the small ones that just cover the wrist), that'll give some support as well when doing flares and other stuff. |

I had pain in my left wrist for over 4 months. Such that it hurt to stretch it and basically hurt to do any move on that hand. This pain also came from flares. It only healed after I TOTALLY stopped using that wrist for like a month and a half. You can still do stuff on your FINGERS... like footwork. Practice footwork and toprock and lots of poses on the other hand or on your forearms and elbow and do headspins. Just stop putting that palm flat on the floor...
I got the same pain in my right wrist also, about a year later, this time it only took like 2 months to heal cuz i knew what i was doing. Here is some stuff that helped me recover: 1. as i said before, stop putting that palm on the floor... dont make any exceptions. I know it sucks, believe me Ive been through it, but if you want it to heal you have to lay off of it. 2. i learned a technique called ice massage, that you should begin immediately. You only need like one or two cubes of ice to do this. Rather than having a big ice pack, take one cube in like a plastic bag and MASSAGE the palm side of your wrist with it. It feels really good, and its gonna help. I did this like once a day every day. 3. You might consider getting a wrist brace for when you do dance, so as to make it impossible for you to bend your wrist, and thus you will protect it. 4. To regain flexibility and strength in your wrist there are a lot of exercises you can do. Keep in mind if this is ever painful (not the burning sensation of building muscle, but the aching of wrist pain) you should stop or go easier. The one that helpd me the most is this. Extend your arms out in front of you, bend your wrist back, so that the back of your hand comes toward your face. Then squeeze your fingers together and apart. You could do this with stress balls too if you want. Do it all the time. I used to do it every night as I lay in bed. Like 200 squeezes. It really helps. Just remember, dont push it, if it hurts stop. |

tag!. im part german as well as having japanese, english and polish in me. my friend had the exact same problem. except he got the bad wrist cause he fell off his skateboard while going down a hill and he used his hands to catch himself when he hit the ground. so one of his wrists just screwed up. he used to be able to do lots of flares, but now cant get more than 2 cause of the pain. so if bboy_diesel's method doesnt work, id suggest going to the doctor to at least find out whats wrong with your wrist. you'll definately feel better once you know whats wrong with it. good luck. tschus!

Yo stay of that wrist for a while man...
Trust me i should know. When i first started flares, after about a month or two i started to get this pain in my wrist. It wasnt too bad. Then i stuffed up a backflip, and landed with alot of pressure on my right wrist. This injury was killer for my practice, it took like a full 4-5 months to heal properly, and its lost alot of flexibility. But its good for breaking on now. And guess what, about 3 weeks ago or something i jammed my left wrist, fuckin hoorah, now im truly sticking of this one and doing different stuff. you gotta let these things heal. Im hoping this one will cure eariler cos its quite annoying. I just learned flares before this injury, so now im super pissed off because i might lose them through non-practice. Having to re-learn flares again might break me. ![]() |

it's a pretty simple equation mate, if your wrist hurts then stop. Either your muscles have been faitgued to the point where they aren't going to be any use to you anymore anyway, or you've gone and screwed up some ligenments with some light tearing. After every session pack your wrist with ice, i've been doing it for years and it's the best thing i've done, and on top of that, there's no harm in taking a break from flairs, most of the time you'll find that you come back much fresher, so take a break, work on your toprock.

listen to diesel, he's got good advice for it
please DO stay off the wrist for a while, and bandage it up ( all the way through your palm) when you start using it again... the extension rotations are really good for it too you can go buy a cream that has MSM in it, that will help to heal it, usually thats also combined with arnica which will also help your healing process you might want to go check in with a chiropractor - it's entirely possible you've been bending your fingers out of joint with the angle of pressure and that may be putting extra pressure on your wrist- it's worth a visit anyhow |

i practice 2 powermove per day as well as some freezes to get more timing.
exemple before yesterday i was practicing flare headspine and airchairs elbow airchair . so airchair make ur wrist hurt a lot , than i did the flares so it got worst but i got used to it. and my wrist became stronger. now it doesnt hurt anymore, expt when i do airchair it hurt so i stop practicing for like 1-2 days. you know you should practice the other stuff. exp practice headspine elbow spine and footwork(even tho i dont really like footwork). and by the time u get healed u will have 4-5 spin of elbow spin or headspine down and dont stop break because the doctor said lol , many people were asked to stop break they still break and they are fine. u should just be more careful. yeah yeah ...english sucky , sorry im canadian from algeria france |
