Smile "StraitlanE BBoys" Dance School - 04-03-2005, 10:37 AM

Good day

I'm opening a dance school on the 6th of April 2005

I will be dealing with every aspect of bboying/bgirling.
I will cover Style, Power and occasionally group dynamics. I was just wondering if there are any tips you guys could give me for starting out E.G. what moves to start with, what teaching techniques, how far must I guide them for them not to loose their own unique style Exe

I don't have problems knowing how to execute the moves, it's teaching them...that's the problem.

If you guys have references to videos or guides that I could order/ read that could be of use, I would be more than greatful.

P.S. Check out the "Airflare" guide on the moves section. No-one goes there too often, so just getting out in the open.

God Bless and keep breaking

Hey I gotta few suggestions for ya. I bboy but I don't teach it in a class; I teach hip-hop at a sudio though. First, you must absolutly have everybody be able to pick up a beat! It might seem dumb having students just claping or two stepping, but you need to make sure everyone has the basics so they can have a foundation.
Also, there are two really good videos that teach hip-hop, breakin', and house styles you can buy from style2ouf's store. If your going to buy don't forget to change the currency from euros to U.S. dollars. Their is an added tax on the original price because it is an import but I think it's worth it.

before you do anything, i think u should teach your class how to stretch properly, that way once they learn it, they can stretch before they come to your class
then teach the elements of bboying, history, blah blah dont go TOO much in depth, juss kinda overview everything
then teach the basic toprock, there are already plenty of guides on this site, check em out
after you teach them that toprock, show em some videos (or better yet you present to them) of juss sum freestyle toprocks, juss to kinda show em what they're learning should evolve into
then teach 6 step first, then other downrock such as 1 step, 2 step, 3 step, 4 step, etc. etc.
after they get those down, teach em some pompos/switches, so they can add sum style into their footwork
after that, teach em the baby freeze/chair freeze, they'll get it fast
i would prolly teach them the handglide position next, cuz it'll help develop their wrist strength
also teach em how to handstand
after they get the handglide position down, they'll prolly consider the handglide their first "power" move
then teach em some more toprock moves
then teach some drops between tops to footwork, and then start having em make sum complete sets, like tops>footwork>freeze>footwork>handglides>freeze
as for the next "power" move, i'd go wit swipes, and from there on you can choose however u want to help them develop their style
