Is flexibility without pain possible?? - 04-03-2005, 05:27 AM

Been dancing for a while on and off for a while. It seems the best dancers are extreamly flexible.
I enjoy dancing but hate stretching.
Its the pain factor.
Anyone with advice on this?

Strechin is somethin u hve to do, it make u perform ur best, and it doesnt let u pull a muscle(which hurts like hell).

If ur strechin and u dont feel pain aka the strech, then ur not strechin properly.

U HAVE TO STRECH!

There is such thing as people who are flexible without ever having to stretch. For them stretchin doesnt hurt a bit. But for the other 99% of us stretching is a pain in the ass. I recommend PNF stretching (means when you resist while stretching for about 15 secs then relax for 30, and repeat). Althought this doesnt hurt any less it has fast results so you dont need to stretch quite as much.

Huh? Pain while streching?? It may just be me, but i never have pain while streching, i even use it to relax when i'm getting tired by practising tops and footwork. Unless ur calling the stretching feeling pain.

stretching SHOULDN"t be painful - it can hurt, but you shouldn't feel pain
if you stretch to the point of pain, your body learns that it is painful and will resist your efforts to become more flexible... think about active stretching with the intensity of a yawn- just engaged enough to reach and get oxygen all through your body, then when you relax, relax in the stretch, breath, and try to be in a position where the muscles that you want to elongate are COMPLETELY passive... i.e. NO PUSHING IN THE SPLITS!!!

get yourself a yoga book and copy those stretches - i'm actually most flexible when instead of pushing hard to be " flexible" i'm just reaching consistently through movements and carving out the edges of my reach, without really focusing on any one image ( like, perfect splits or legs behind my head )
then i'm strong, and like gumby

seriously- get a yoga book, and make sure that your stretching time feels GOOOD... do it while watching a movie at home or something

just practice it doesnt matter if it hurts or not, the pain isnt that great anyway. when u stretch dont push to the limit at the first try, bit by bit.
for split u gotta ....practice a lot . if u are serious about it , u can get it in less than a month as many people i know
