I have a question? - 03-29-2005, 07:06 PM

My question has to deal with the history of breakdancing. I was reading an article and it stated "With all the new craze created by break dancing it became very and almost too popular in the 80's. Because of this break dancers went underground" My actual question is WHY DO YOU THINK BREAK DNACERS WENT UNDERGROUND?

........because when breakdancing gets too popular it gets corrupted by comercialism and we become or look like performing monkeys.....if u understand?,
and because its becoming 'fashionable' to some and peeps are gettin into it to look cool, its ruining the whole philosophy of bboying, and come on I am definitely goin way way underground when that happens.lol.
when i got into hiphop i i thrived only on the underground scene because it felt right and i felt i connected more with that environment, it seemed more raw and creative, nothinig prepackaged, was all improvised.

I hope bboyin and bgirlin doesnt get to a stage where it becomes a sport at the nxt Olympics, that wouldnt be good.

Definitly, I completely understand what you are saying. I hate the people who present themselves as breakdancers, but in actuality they don't even know how to spell the word breakdance; Thanks for the post. Hey I saw some of your clips in the galleries; nice moves keep up the good work!

I been bboying for almost 10 years and only in the past year have I really began to understand what it means to be a true bboy. In February, I met this guy at a HipHop event called Breaklanta 6 and he had been bboying for 26 years. I remember him saying "Never stop learning."

To me, those kind of people inspire me to be down with HipHop. I mean they're really dedicated.

Anyway, you all know the deal. Just thought I might add to the subject.

wow. 26 years. I hope i can go for that long. I've only been doing it for about one year, but i've still undergone a dramatic change in my attitiudes and whatnot. At the very start, it was all about what moves I could learn to show off, and now i realize that I'm doing it for myself, and it's more of a journey than anything. Anyway, keep up the good work
