Crew: What's better? -
12-25-2004, 08:01 PM
Let's say you're puttin a crew together.
Would you get people who had the same styles (ie ALL poppin, ALL breakin, etc.)? Or would you get a people with different styles (ie Some poppers, some bboys/bgirls)? ***Edit*** Since poppin is my style, I'd prefer to get bboys, but not too much. The crew I'm in right now has: 4 dancers (hip hop), 3 bboys (2 of them are poppers, too), and ME, the best popper. |

it doesn't matter. You already have poppers to session with and the bboys already have other bboys to session with.
If you guys ever make a routine or anything, you'll just adapt to whatever you guys have, and pull it off. |

I use to try and pop with a crew that mainly breaks. Its tough cause there not always playing music I could get down to. Its also harder to get feed back when your the only serious popper. I think its good to stick with people of similar dance styles. ITs also good to meet up with others. Get involved with everyone because when you want to throw jams its a lot easier with more

Personally I don't really see the point of having bboys and poppers in the same crew.
That doesn't go to say I don't think bboys and poppers should dance together. I love the fact that there's a mutual respect between the east and west coast styles, but when it comes to a battle, what exactly does a popper have to bring to the floor when battling a squad of bboys? What does a bboy have to bring to the floor when up against a squad of poppers? Then (as Kicks said) there's the whole issue of music. Real popping music, and real bboying music, are a long way apart. |

^true.
maybe it isn't such a good idea for battles, but in a performance, it should be able to work out. |

Stick with friends man.
When you get crews coming together purely for the dance it can turn sour easilly. You need to actually like the other people in your crew, and they need to like you too. It's important that you're with people you can be straight with and you can trust to be straight with you. Can cause problems otherwise. You do get crews that are together purely on a dance tip, and it can work - but to me it's really important that you get on well together first. |

most of the people that i would recruit into my crew would be old friends or dancers that i've befriended.

Having a popper is cool. Also this question could be asked for just breaking... like Havikoro everyone breaks differently, but in Skillmethodz or Massive Monkeys everyone has kinda the same style. I think having the same style is better because that way your more of a crew. And poppers and bboys can have the same style.
