is headspin safe? - 12-23-2004, 10:43 PM

i wanna practice headspins (esp since i bought a helmet just so i can practice em) but my parents are really against it. they say that i should use my brain and dont do stupid things otherwise ill end up in a wheelchair. saying that 1 second of doin em could result in a life of bein paralyzed. then my mum tells me about someone at her school when she was small who ended up in a wheelchair after an accident he had in gymnastics. i really wanna practice it but im gettin paranoid about practicin now, thinkin that ill hurt myself (just like in the movies when a kids parents say dont do it, but the kid ignores them and the next minute hes had the accident and screwed up his life).

exactly how safe are headspins and wat should i do first? build up muscle strength in my neck/shoulders? how?

anyone else got the same problem?

headspins are dangerous. i mean, your brain can fall out your ears at any given time. man, there is nothing to be afraid of, i'm not into headspins, but i'll tried them a few times and there is nothing to be afraid of.

check my video guide in the Flare section of the Move Guides forum.

if you approach it slowly, you'll be safe. gymnastics is some dangerous shit. the helmet makes it dangerous though. i suggest you learn headspins first, then put the helmet on and get 23423432 spins. only idiots paralyze themselves on headspins.

the only bad thing is your head getting scratched up or dandruffing. nasty.

funny thing headspins....
people who've never done them think they are the most dangerous things in the world.
people who've done them think otherwise.
what does a gymnastic accident have to do with headspins? unless the gymnast was doing headspins i fail to see the relationship.

dont bite off more than you can chew, trying to immediately do 6 spins in a row when you've never done a headstand is stupid

ive done slow headspins on carpet, im fine and its fun too

because i am such a noob i will post my move list:
23 airflares in a row
upside down head spins
reverse windmills on a 50cm by 50cm table
an omega bomb into perfect planche
hollow backs so good that my legs arm goin through my arms
super strong airchairs that air people can sit on
perfect toprock wearing buckets for shoes
helicopters so fast i start floating
1 handed flares
jackhammers on a bed of nails
unless you got a move list as good as that dont bother making one as your sig, understand?

Psychoanalysis the relationship between gymnastics and headspin is that theyre both things that defy what your bodies made for. u aint made to flip around on a pole and neither are u made to spin on ure head.......but meh im still gonna do em anyway....eventually

okay, that's not what psychoanalysis is.

and gymnastics and head spinning don't deny what the body is made for because the body is capable of doing it.

Psychoanalysis - The method of psychological therapy originated by Sigmund Freud in which free association, dream interpretation, and analysis of resistance and transference are used to explore repressed or unconscious impulses, anxieties, and internal conflicts, in order to free psychic energy for mature love and work.

Headspin wont hurt your head really... The first few tries if done with out a helmet will hurt your head and put a strain on your neck. This will pass with time. The only thing that could get you hurt is if you fall to the side or fall incorrectly. Ehhh don't worry bout it tho. It only happens if you try to spin uncontrollably fast or your dumb.
