Rhythm - 05-18-2004, 10:05 PM

hey.. I was talking to a friend, and he wanted to breakdance. So i whipped out the DVD and we were watching it. We went into the top rock section cuz i thought it would be easy for him to learn. Yeh, i didnt know he had like.. no rhythm. But i remember from the Top rock (Bboy speedy) That he says "If you dont got rhythm, grab a bag of rhythm and eat out of it" or something to that sort. Well i was wondering if rhythm comes with time? I myself had trouble at first, but the only thing i had problem with was mixing it up myself. Anyone know if theres still a achance for him even though he has no rhythm?

it comes with time, amazingly, rhythm is somethin you need to work for to have, believe it or not, i jus started couple of monthz ago to learn how to rock the beat very well, and itz one of my primary prospectz when bboyin now, even in footwork and whatnot, but yea, i'd say it comes in time

Most definately. Especially to those who usually dont dance any other types of dancing. When I was starting back out in the day, I was amazed at the foundational toprock and I just could not find the rhythm to toprock correctly. So I just practiced everyday. I practiced dancing. I felt incredibly funny during the first few weeks, but after awhile your mind matures and your dancing becomes more liberated and you dont feel funny rocking the beat. It helps to videotape your progression of toprock somehow also.

OKay..thats helps me out too, cuz i havent danced before with anything until this (This is my main reason, cuz i WANNA dance -_-) But anyways, i can keep a beat with the basic toprock, but if i tried to do what speedy did, and what mostly all of you do, like toprocking in a circle before your moves, i basically stumble over my feet for a couple seconds, and stop cuz im humiliated at myself lol.. but ill get infront of a mirror, and soon to be a webcam ^_^ So you guys can see me, and my progress soon.. hopefully

Thanks guys, ill tell him to keep him encouraged... i apprecciate it.

Everyone is born with a sense of rythem; this is true (Some are better than others) Just keep working it, try stuff with a straigh beat and count 1-2-3-4, out loud while your practising your steps.
