prev Gens vs New Gen -
05-06-2004, 03:42 PM
I got inspired by that guy whos talking bout bboying changing for this topic and it relly amazes me.
Our (the current teens) genreation seems so much wacker in every sense then the previous generation. We dont seem to have incredile talent in any aspect. All the teen music is pretty crappy, graffiti is all throw ups, half assed ones @ that, bboying is no longer original or as exciting... the only thing that seems to be eveolving for us is technology.
What are all y'alls opinion on this? Peace

it's a matter of opinion... and you chose to take the negetive ones.
If anyway alot of bboys are hitting the limits everyday and bringing up something new... back in the 80s you didn't see anything like airflares and elbow chair spins... You can't scale innovation from when it was first starting and now where it has been around for years. No one can recreate the 6 step because its considered a foundation... The oldschool itself... It's what gives bboying its history see? You can't compare it because thats where it started and created the basis for what this entire style is. Innovative? Argueable since people have to look even deeper to see something that has never been done yet(In front of them of course, talk about biting is a whole different conversation) even if it's "just" a variation.
Music changes as the media pushes it further and further, once again alot of people would say todays music is more upbeat then oldschool (Not necessaryily better but some like to dance to it). Even if you don't agree with the direction its going (neither do I), it will countinue to change until hiphop isn't as popular as it used to be.
Example: You guys know the 50's and 60's music? When a old guy tells you that this is the "good" stuff and turns on a old old vinyl of that, 99.5% of you wouldn't exactly enjoy it...

B-boying is an art form created by youth. As the youth change with their surroundings, so does the art-form. No one is going to agree that some things are better back then, and some things are better today. There just different; period.
It's a constantly evolving entity, shaped and molded by the b-boys of the past, present and future.

? new emcees are byt far the most tasteless ive ever seen...
mainstream hip hop right now is just hip-pop. Whatever happened to the good old days where real music wuz possible to find? it seems every time i turn on a hiphop station they play CRAP! and every1 loves it! Its horrible
im not even trying to pessimistic, but i cant seem to find another opinion on this topic. Bboying has barely evolved since it started it seems. Graffiti seems to rely on old heads or new bombs. Emceeing is the new pop music. DJing... has changed - mostly with technology tho. Peace

its called underground son... you must realize that the majority of people arent geniuses, in fact in my opinion, they are leaning to the really really dumb side..... (all opinions you guys, remember the majority vote rules and the majority wanted george bush, so there u go, but not only that but the democrat was no great choice either...)
now, the media goes where the majority is. and sadly, the majority wants hip-pop. o well too bad so sad, eventually(hopefully) people will begin leaning back towards real style and flava as opposed to this RUBBER BAND MAN, GAME OVER, RIGHT THURR nonsensical trash...
*edit* by the way, u can keep whining or get out there and try to do something about it.
on the funny side, some kid said he was freestyling and he bit a whole Big L song... haha i chewed that suckah out

Ok murda think for a second when u say mc's if ur referring to 50 cent and eminem ur crazy. those guys and ppl like them have nothing to do with hip hop anymore they dont care about it its all about hoes drugs guns and money to them. "UNDERGROUND" enough said about that. as for bboying its been pushed farther then its ever been before. Seriously wake up and smell the linoleum. Look at korea a country of mostly power heads. Then this crew called expression comes along and Bboys like ducky,wake-up,t,chink and min seck caome along who actuall got tops footwork and uprocks. imagine that.back to america Kujo has pushed almost every limit of the human body in bboying for god sakes planche airflares i bet crazy legs never saw that in the 80's. but the point is im not tryin to rag on u man but U just gotta ignore the media they get in and ruin just about any good good thing.Peeps are gettin crazier every day who know what the future might hold. srry if I offended u
Drifter...the final project
Breaking can be whatever you want it to be. If you want it
to be the original, structured dance that it was 20 years ago,
then it can be that for you. If you want it to be your own
limitless form of expression, it can be that for you.
The world will never agree on what exactly Breaking is...
and if the world ever does agree, then I guess I won't be Breaking anymore.

Have you been locked in a box for the past few years? Piecing is STILL big, in the major cities at least, and it doesnt matter because throw ups are a integral part of graffiti anyways. If you kept up with your graff scene you would know that.

--wow murda i dont knw what it is but it seems to me ur never happy nowandays...take this ne way u want but peoples respect for u is steadily going down...
anywayz on the subject...i see ur point. from the graffitit point of view...ur right im not dissin on our generation of taggers and bomba's (im in love wit graffiti too) but its like 90% of amazing tags, murals, an throw ups are or were done by previous generations. there are new prodigy like artists doin it big for graffiti (much love for those guys)but i feel sometimes that graffiti as a whole is losing its effect and popularity...from the bboying side...i dont side with u. bboys are creating and revising moves that older breakers only wish they knew or could do. bboyin' is one aspect of the elements that i believe will always survive till the end of time..if not prove me wrong...[hoax]
