Learning how to take a fall -
03-27-2004, 01:49 AM
I just noticed the importance of knowing how to "take a fall"
becuase.. as many of you know you would have to bail a couple times working on a freeze or new move..
i was just wondering whats the most painless way you guys bail..
like today i was practicing my pikes in the school studio with some other people and i leaned to far.. i could feel myself falling towards the ground.. towards my head.. so like iunno i guess as a natural reaction i covered the fall with the muscly part of the shoulder.. and i probably saved myself from another concussion and a pretty nasty face plant..
anyways yeah i kinda rolled slowly out of it like a collapse for a windmill.
do you guys have any ways of taking a fall?

its about using your arms to take the fall ...altho i rarely use my arms when i fall in b-boying..but it surely helped me to fall mostly on my back and to protect my head

usuall i make a curveture in the direction im falling allowing me to slowy disperse momentum. its also good to practice those types of moves on the gymnastic floor things. I make a two ply gymnastic floor thingy, attempt front flips, back flips, air freezes...

Yeah it reduces the pressure if you fall on your back...

Yeah, I remember one time I went into a pike, and I started going too far forward. But instead of falling on my back, I fell into an elbow pike. It kinda hurt because it's not exactly what I was going for, but it was still cool. It's weird because I have this scar on my forearm by my elbow that puffs up whenever I do forearm freezes too much on hard surfaces.
Another time I just fell flat on my fricken back. Luckily it was on carpet but still.... Anyway, that's one of the main reasons why I'm scared of trying 1-handed hollow inverts. Even though I can pike alright and I can easily get out of a hollow inver, I'm still kinda scared....

ok this is my technicality on falling safely...try and make it look as painful as possible without breaking anything, it makes people feel really sorry for you, either that or they laugh at you really hard...either way u attract attention..my friend has mastered this method...
seriously though i have no clue im used to it...i fall on my bak a lot on a wider surface to even out the weigh and that helps quite a bit...although sum times i land on my arms wen im trying new moves like backhandsprings and such, hurts like hell. but im really used to it now, the bruises come and go like nothing, i remember wen i just started i was so sore with so many bruises. nowadays i dont notice the bruises and soreness is not as bad...
and uhh dont try landin on ur head without breaking it, i dont think you will be very succefsul attempting that.
im a breaker for life
ill love it for life
no matter how many bones i break
or bruises i make
~~~PEACE~~~
The safest way to fall would be to roll out of it, and if you want to be really good at it, practice falling and rolling out of it, and keep your head off the ground.
I've been thrown down so hard that my neck muscles gave way and my head still hit the floor though, but I guess that's a different story.
Vin Diesel and the Internet - relation? I THINK SO
Vin Diesel invented the internet while trying to steal cable TV.
Contrary to popular belief, it was in fact Vin Diesel who invented the internet. Al Gore stole the designs when Vin fell asleep at his keyboard.
Hey if ya fall from a handstand go into a face plant. Alwayz looks good in front of a crowd. Then try to smoothly combo into a nose spin. =)
Rollins the bes way to go. Landing straight out stiff is probly the most painfull unless ur good at suicides.
