Rocking "Uprock aka Brooklyn Rock" - 03-26-2004, 02:30 PM

Well, Rocking is the true name of the dance.
It was called Uprock because back in the days the rock heads thought is was a rock concert band playing and not an Uprock Jam.
Now there is a confusion on toprock and Uprock they are two diff dances, although they are similar in some moves.
Now "Rock" "Uprock" or "Brooklyn Rock" they are all the same name for the dance. Here in NYC both king Uprock and Myself teach Uprock to many new UpRock and Bboy headz.
King Uprock is about to release an Uprock History Video. I don't know if there will be an instructional yet. The reason is because when you rock you must have knowledge of the music, to do it to.
In addition, you must know how to Hustle, Mambo, Lindy Hop and Salsa to name a few. I know thats a lot but this help you to understand the way rockers move. We are not all about just the jerks that every Bboys tries to mimic. It is more about style dance and techniques. I will try to meet with Tane and see about setting an onsite demo for all to see a few Rockin techniques.
For now I hope this helps Peace...

Vin Diesel and the Internet - relation? I THINK SO

Vin Diesel invented the internet while trying to steal cable TV.

Contrary to popular belief, it was in fact Vin Diesel who invented the internet. Al Gore stole the designs when Vin fell asleep at his keyboard.

Breakeasy is pretty much right, uprocking and toprocking is a style all in its own really. Its basically what a bboy throws down before hittin the floor with some downrock and footwork. The brooklyn rock is basically a toprock/uprock (whatever) of its own, mostly used in battles and for some style purposes. It's rthym is in like 5 beats, 5 steps, its kinda hard to explain it you have to see it to understand it moreso then just have it explained to you. Once you learn it though its natural and looks good, then you throw in your own style and flavor and it works. It looks especially good in routines, 2 on 2's and whatnot, or just one on one, check for a clip or something.

"If you can't handle yourself in a battle, then you don't deserve to call yourself a bboy"- Crazy Legs

Ha! I heard your kung fu was strong and impressive. But you can not beat my style! HA HA HA lol J/k but we all know I'd win

You have to become a part of the culture to learn the history, tradition and foundations behind it, along with the experiences it brings - Me

"Posers" are the peeps, that personally I think, are those who are talk and no dance. If they can't get down and dirty on the floor like the dirt that flys from their mouth then grill 'em, sizzle fry their ass - Me

BTW check this. When practicing it listen to the beats in a song, one of the best songs to practice it to is "just begun" any version works, the jimmy castor bunch or james brown, both work.

I know this is kinda old, but I'm bumping this up to make sure people read Break Easy's explanation.

Young Uprock - What you see Ken Swift do, isn't actual uprock. That's a good example of "bboy uprock" as it sometimes gets called - but basically it's just all Jerks, and not even good jerks at that.

I've just been out in Brooklyn and Queens learning from Break Easy and King Uprock, and I can tell you that there's a LOT more to uprock than you think.

Peace.

A bboy without style, is like a broken pencil.

There's just no point.

Do they know of anyone in the south who teaches brooklyn rock? I'm extremely interested in learning but there's no one that I know in atlanta or in the southern states.

Nah Tiny - not even!
LoL!!!

There is SOOOOOOOO much more to it than that. I couldn't believe just how complex a danceform rocking was when I hit Brooklyn.
The "down on 4" thing is kinda like an incorrect version of ONE PART of rocking.

Alpha...
Go check the Dynasty Rockers website. There's a few of them based in other parts of the US - Not sure where though.
Your best bet is to save up some cash and travel up to NYC though - trust me - you won't regret it.
I think JetBlue have some good prices.

SHUFFLE......

SHUFFLE......

DOWN..... !

LoL! - Funny stuff man - good times.
You know I'm back soon.

I agree tho - anyone who really wants to learn to rock should save up their money and head to NYC - it's gonna take a few trips to get it all down fully - or one long trip where you do nothing but rock - but definately the way to go.
