People stereotype "Break"dancing -
03-24-2004, 10:20 PM
I remember my teacher asked me what happened to my thumb when i broke it and i sayed it was from breakdancing and she just laughed right there. Any of this happen to anyone else?
Everyone thinks breakdancing is because you break something.
Its because the part of a song where it concentrates heavily on precussion instruments, thast is called a break. Breakdancing it dancing to the break of a song.
There are 3 kinds of people: ones who ask why life, ones who look at life, and ones who live life.
In the end it won't matter what color your hair was, what brand of clothes you wore, or what size shoe you had. What you learned is what's gonna matter.
Having courage is when even though you know you are screwed and it seems pointless, you try anyways always seeing it through no matter what.
If life gives you lemons you don't have to make lemonade, you can trade them for oranges and make orange juice.
You see blacks, whites, asians... I see people.
Send the package and hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
Smiles are contagious.
You laugh because I'm different, I laugh because I just farted.
I got all the knowledge I know today from all the people locked down in my basement.

If I'm talking to someone that plays the drums, or knows anything about music, they are usually smart enough to put 1 and 1 togethor.....unfortunetly, it's not always 2.
my arsenal:
Toprock
Floorwork
turtle(freeze)
handglide
swipe(2-legged,air swipes))
skyscraper
handstand(2handed-16 sec,1handed-2 sec.)
baby freeze

Beginners giving beginners tips without understanding what they are saying is probally one of the worst ways to spread KNOWLEDGE.....which is the key to anything in life.

yeah I have had people look at me funny and laugh when they ask me what happened to your thumb (when I was injured) Actually quite a few people made an issue of it but most of the response is generally some sort of envy of wanting to be able to do that and they just make a joke of it. Shouldn't let it bother you though.

Of course. When most unknowing people hear of breakdancing, they only imagine the headspins, windmills, etc. Most people don't know what style is, and when they see you busting ill top rock and footwork, they see you as a "weak" breakdancer, because you don't bust the powermoves in front of them.
Yeah, if you can tell, I've gotten that alot. At my old high school, I brought back the bboy scene through starting a club, being active in school performances, and giving back to my community by holding lessons for those that are willing to go through the rigorous training.
All the stereotypes are typical, don't let them bother you. What's important is how you perceive your capabilities... who cares what others think?
Personally, I emphasize heavily on the style and dance aspect of bboying. In middle and high school, however, I was nearly pure power and poses. But as I got older, I found myself appreciating bboying for the dance and lifestyle... bringing me to become a near-pure stylist.
Engyn.
The important thing is... is that at anytime we can sacrifice what we are now for what we can become.

people who arer not really familiar with it seem to think it's all power moves. Everytime someone finds out I bboy it they say.....Do the spinney head thing .....I sometimes tell them it;s not just about the headspins , it's more to it.....

Clearly people can't understand what b-boying is, who have an interest of it for only 20 seconds. For passive conversation it's pretty difficult to talk about breakdancing to people.
