hmm...beginners... - 03-20-2004, 07:40 AM

am i the only person who gets ticked off by beginners who jump in and then try to learn the fancy stuff without learning the foundation basics and then cant figure out why they're so crap and why then cant get the move in an hour...im not saying im some sort of master or anything, far from it, but so many beginners are like this and it really pisses me off 'cause they ask the stupidest questions and then make fools of themselves trying advanced moves without having any real fondation...

I've had beginners tell me the 6 step is to complicated..its cause they have shit mentality and alot of them don't really want to work

Vin Diesel and the Internet - relation? I THINK SO

Vin Diesel invented the internet while trying to steal cable TV.

Contrary to popular belief, it was in fact Vin Diesel who invented the internet. Al Gore stole the designs when Vin fell asleep at his keyboard.

I see that alot at the dances. I saw some guy trying to copy "You Got Served" he hella ate shit. he tried windmill, hella ate shit. He tried headspin, hella ate shit(not even one rotation). I must admit i was like that before. I classify myself as a beginner/intermediate.

Having courage is when even though you know you are screwed and it seems pointless, you try anyways always seeing it through no matter what.

ya know, u guys talk a lot of shit about people...

first of all, when ur starting out at ANYTHING...u do what interests u the most, it is less frustrating and keeps you in the game longer. who cares what they start out wit, eventually they'll get the foundation or they wont last.

but in the beginning its very much about what interests u. the person teaching a class should know that altho in classes its a lil bit harder.

Dont bite the hand that feeds u, eventually everyone helping u will get annoyed...jesus.

Beginners giving beginners tips without understanding what they are saying is probally one of the worst ways to spread KNOWLEDGE.....which is the key to anything in life.

One of my friends started off tryin to learn headspins and flares... I was against it but there was nothing I could really do.

Since then he has reevaluted himself and gone back and is getting all his foundation moves down... While he did waste a lot of time on the headspins and flares, I think that experience got him hooked on bboying.

So I agree with anubis.

I was thinkin about those people who think theres just some stupid trick to doing moves...then they want to learn mills and headspins. When you show them how and then they try and they can't they ask to learn somethin new, and the cycle continues...some people just don't want to make the effort to learn. Of course not everyone has the time to practice alot...

haha i was like that in my earlier days of a begginer (im still a begginner ). I was like, psh, ive watched the Basic Moves video many a times i should be able to get windmills (well last dance i actually danced in, it was going crappy for me because of water on the floor and being tired, so i figured what the crap, im doing bad anyway, so i tried a mill ) or i read a guide so i got in there, haha man.....Then i kept on telling everybody that i was into breakdancing now, even though i wouldnt have any crap down really to back it up. But i have learned from my ways, i rarely bring up me dancing in convos with non-street dance people, and i know i gotta actually practice.

Cleary I can see the appeal for any young aspiring b-boy/girl to want to do these "cool" moves. It's just the same thing as a young car person wanting to get out a rip a Ferrari when there 15, they have to learn how to drive first. These young students come and want to learn all the stuff that established B-boys make look so easy, why wouldn't they it's perfectly natural.

The key as a teacher is to instill work ethic and disipline into the student of b-boying, they will respect you and the art form alot more if they progress with there own self-accoplishments.

yea, the first move I tried to learn was windmill. After succesfully not coming close to doing, I asked what would be easier. My friend/instructor said toprock. And then I went back to practing the windmill. Still couldnt do it so I asked for somthin easier, and he............................................and then I tried windmills. Bottom line, just look at my sig.

and about that car thing, I've driven a turboe rx-7, I think I could handle Ferrari, well, a lil bit.

my arsenal:

Toprock
Floorwork
turtle(freeze)
handglide
swipe(2-legged,air swipes))

I knew this asian kid, he started breakin tryin to do flares and mills n stuff. And a couple of months later he didnt look stupid or break his neck, he had mill and flares just fine. I asked him what about his foundational stuff, like footwork and whatever. He told me to shut up. And currently he's got some dope power stuff, and some actual good footwork. If cats wanna learn windmills first, cos they think they look cool, then let em. If they look stupid then great, if they learn them then great. Why would it bother you?

I will now attemp to drown myself, you can try this at home, you can be just like me.-Slim

If it was, would it be hurting anyone. If 99% of the worlds population started bboyin and they all became power heads, would it hurt anything. If thats the way they wanna dance then who cares. Its not hurting anybody, just shut up and dance and stop worrying about everybody except for ya self.
