World Bboy Championships -
01-24-2004, 11:17 AM
This event is due to go down on the 7th and 8th of Feb 2004 in London, England.
There's been discussion about wther it was genuine or not. Well it looks like it's going ahead. Many participating crews have recieved the payment for their flights to the UK... However, there's a bunch of issues remaining. 1> They have changed the prize money from £sterling to $us... Might not seem like a big deal, but changing from £10,000 (1st prize 4on4 "crew" battles) to $10,000 lowers that actual value of the prize to almost a half. Then there's the rules... You can find the full rules here... http://www.justfabulousgroup.com/CompRules.htm (For 2on2 battles) The top 16 teams perform for 2 minutes in this round. The teams can only perform combination moves, all the moves must include both members. If there was ANY doubt that this prick isn't a dancer - there is your proof. - 2 minutes of solid partner work is going to use up a LOT of moves and leave competitors both worn out and short of moves. Example The crew going first may decide to open with a 4 men combination move but the opposing crew may respond with a vastly superior 4 men combination move of their own and defeat their rivals; and thus win the battle in one move. Alternatively they may decide to sacrifice one breaker and lose that round and continue battling with 3 members. But they will not know what they are going to do until they have seen the opposition perform their move. Translation - If your opponents do a 4 man combo, and you don't have a 4 man combo - no matter HOW good your shit is - you lose. 1) Breakers are not allowed to swear, however they are allowed to banter (good humoured fun). 2) Breakers are not allowed to repeat moves or perform moves that are too similar in the same round. This will lead to disqualification. So if you do two variations of a windmill seperately in one throwdown - you are out. 8) All Crews must have kits (The 4 members of each crew must wear identical clothing) so they are easily recognised by the judges and the television viewers worldwide. PMSL!!! NOW THAT IS NOTHING SHORT OF A JOKE!!! 9) If the first crew's next Breaker comes out and does 3 airflares but the opposition crew's Breaker comes and executes 5. Then the first crew will lose their second breaker and will be down to 2 members. No chance to respond and go one up on them - do a move, if they beat it, you're out for good. If you go and read the rules - watch out for the one that breaks down as "In the crew battles, the first throwdown from each breaker in both crews doesn't count" Everything about this event is bullshit. The rules PROVE that not only are the promotors NOT breakers - but they have absolutely NO clue about bboying whatsoever. I say again - complete and utter tripe. People have been warned time and time again about this event being shite. The promotor has a track record of being a pisstaker, and these rules go to show just how clueless the entire team are. If you go to this to compete and don't get paid - you deserve everything you get! WACK! Don't give them your money as an entrance fee. Keep it in your pocket and use it to travel to a decent bboy-run event another time. |

indeed this event is BOLLOCKS. How can they make such a mockery of bboyin by turning it into a fuckin gameshow format, imo bboys will jus b confused. what a load of shite. i have better stuff to do on that weekend.
but in all honesty i think, if i lived in london, i would try and go for the cash, arent cotmb and foundationz reppin from uk? i dont think blaming the competitors is right, theyve been tempted by that amount of cash, but the way the rules are worded on the site it looks like each of the last eight crews gets $4100? between them? i think thers gonna be sum huge fuckin controversy over this. and at the end of it, the UK scene will be left trampled on the floor like a piece of shit. |

the JustFabulous site's history of bboying!! -
01-24-2004, 03:58 PM
Note: I deleted parts from this to condense it but otherwise it's word for word...
1969 saw Don Campbell become a well-known street dancer in Los Angeles, inventing a dance called Campbellock. The Godfather of Hip Hop culture, Afrika Bambaataa, was largely responsible for its initial growth in the early 70's. As well as being a Grandmaster DJ, he was also the leader of Zulu Nation, which was a communal of Breakers, DJs, MCs, and graffiti artists who were formed to bring about social consciousness to Hip Hop. From Zulu Nation derived one of the first B-Boy crews Zulu Kings. B-Boying derived from the Bronx, New York. The unbearable summer heat would force residents out of their apartments and on to the streets. B-Boying is a progressive dance form, taking elements from African tribal dance, martial arts from the Far East and Brazilian Capuera. The dance form is still evolving today. Breaking is not the only style of Hip Hop dancing. Dances such as the Brooklyn Rock and Funk Styles (Floats, Locking, Popping and the Electric Boogaloo) also exist. A breaking battle is won by being more innovative with footwork and freezes as well as performing enhanced moves with more speed. B-boying was all the rage from the very early 70's right the way through until 1979. It was at this time that the pop group Chic released the track Le Freak. There was now a new dance, it was called the Freak. The Freak took over and many B-Boys discontinued their passion. Nevertheless, there were a few crews such as the Rock Steady Crew who kept breaking alive. well check out what's in bold...very sketchy, downright funny at times. "enhanced moves with more speed"...sounds like a video game. I stickied this. |

HaHa!
If there was any confusion... No, I'm not going. Furious - Monkey Basket are entering. Not 100% about Foundationz. I'm not blaming the competitors, it's fair enough to want to take a grab at the money... What I meant is that if people don't get what they are owed they have no reason to be surprised about it. I've heard that all three judges are fairly well respected bboys/poppers so it's all good there. |

nah man, you cant do 50 elbow tracks or 40 1990s because, if you read the rules....
EACH BREAKER GETS STRICTLY 30 secs!!!! i mean....thats so gay. and wtf, u cant reply back a move against another bboy so your 'out?' This totaLLY DEFEATS THE IDEA OF HIP HOP. DJ Q Bert from the invisible skratch people said Hip Hop asks you a question "What are you going to do next?" He meant that in terms of Battle, what are you going to do to surpass your opponent? If you cant reply back, then its not a battle. Bboys would like have to pull out their BEST SETS just to qualify to the next round. Thats so shit |
