How Breakin/popping has effected my life - 01-19-2004, 03:17 AM

ever since i started breaking and popping (even though it hasnt been to long, and im not that good really) ive noticed how it has effected me in daily living. I usually like work on robotics or glides while getting around in school. When i type on comps i try to type in beat with the song i am listening to at times. the way i look at different movements has changed. then when i play basketball my steps and what not i take i diff, i at times get into this toprock type of movement, then when i fall or something, it has effected on how i get up.

Anybody else have had similar experinces?

hehe, similar experience here too watashi...every time i fall and i try and get up, ill do a six-steps to a helicopter 90% of the time. I'd also beatbox(often when im bored). Also pop to beats of songs and toprock instead of just like listenin to em. Bboyin has definetly changed my life. It aint a hobby, it's more like a culture that we follow, its part of the hip hop culture.

I play basketball and I do sometimes realise that my leg movement is kinda "top-rocky".. It happens when I play soccer too.. haha.. sometimes i wake up in the middle of night and practice some basic freezes.. lol..

bboying has also made me less anti-social.. ahah..

My heart skips a beat when the adrenaline rushes... But my feet dont.. There's no song I don't scream.. No movement I make without sweating... I need no stage for stage presence.. The floor is my battlefield and the battlefield is my playground, my arena, my turf, my stadium. It is my court and I am the judge, the jury and the executioner. Each opponent is a victim as are mine. For I'm bound by the rules of engagement. I am a soldier without a gun.. My body is my weapon and no one commands or holds domain over my actions. I am as free as a bird.. Trapped in this cage of conflict.. I can fly and I'm not afraid to fall.. I know no bounds.. I've been in too many battles to surrender to defeat.. I face death in any situation.. I've killed and been killed.. Blew up and been blown up.. Yet no one has died.. With one gesture I can end it all.. One still moment I can make you stand.. I just need one, one time to prove to you.. I'm one and only, I'm one of many... I'm not alone.. I am what we all are - Bboys

lol Prez. I'm always spinning my pencil on my desk. I also noticed that whenever I'm playing basketball, I'm always toprockin'. Even when I'm guarding lol. And whenever I fall, I usually do a kip-up or a little coffie-grinder thing. But sometimes I'll immediately roll back, lol.

Anyway, I also always picture myself doing airtracks whenever there's an empty floor (even though I can't do them). I also find myself beatboxing a little more than usual even though I suck at it.

And finally, I am almost always gliding/heel toeing everywhere. I can't freakin' stand still and a lot of people have told me that too .

Its affected my life too. I'd be sitting in my socials class and I'd be popping, just when I get bored, though I try to make it less visible to others but sometimes people come up to me and tell me to do it again. One time I was bored and I just started gliding without even knowing, and some girl was like, do it again. I start toprocking in front of the tv. I was never like this.

Breaking... wow.. how has it not influenced my life. Some of my best friends have been met through dancing. It kept us together when a lot of shit was going wrong.

Too me its a stress releiver....

but one of the biggest things becoming a bboy has done for me is open me up to all types of dance. I know a lot of you frown upon other styles of dancin, like cwalkin, or shakin, or reggae, or whatever other styles you can think of, its been important to me, to learn all the styles of dance I can and learn them good. Now i've known for shaking and reggae as well as breaking around here, its nice to be able to mix in steps from walkin, while gliding, and throw in alil shakin while popping.

As other styles have influenced me, the bboys around here have influenced all the club heads around here. No longer is it blind "Raving" bboys have brought some type of stability to some ravers, all the harlem shakers realized adding glides and diffrent types of popping, hittin and other body isolations really help you innovate new things... a lot of club heads have decided to switch their MAIN style of dance from one of the above to breaking.

Its increased a lot of friendships in the area, and brought people who wouldn't normally talk together. In some cases its stopped fights, because this bboy knew these kids who wanted tostart with another bboy, and calmed then down explaining who, what the kid is... blah blah blah..

lastly... i am part of the culture. Where a lot of countries have their own culture.. american culture for me is hard to describe, and even harder to understand. With hip hop, i feel like its part of me, its hard to explain so i'll stop here. I hope breakin helps, and influences atleast some of you like its done me.

don't c-walk if you're not a crip!!!

I remember this guy one time I was playing basketball and he started doing and1 moves and started moonwalking. I got pissed and I started moonwalking, gliding, and popping. I totally served him. He had nothing left to say.

maninderb.... cwalking is a generic name... it can be called bwalking, gwalking, or even clown walking depending onwhat you rep, and wat your doing.
