just get involved with all the hip hop related things that you can
you'll meet some chill people..or better yet..you'll get people who bboy for the right reasons..cats who are trying to represent right..who got respect..those are the people who will stick with you as a crew get a reliable place to practice at least 3-4 times a week there's not a whole lot to it..just finding enough people is all..depending where your at try the hook up forum..or post flyers..use whatever you can to get around..people will come eventually |

The most important thing BY FAR is that you get along with the other people in the crew really well as friends.
If you make a crew just so you can be in a crew, you can be sure that someone will not like someone else, and it'll cause all kinds of problems. Just get a bunch of people together to dance, eventually you'll either grow together or apart, the ones together can form a crew - the others are better off on their own. |

Nah, we are all friends. It is so we can work together to get better at it and maybe later get into some serious competition. I challeneged some stupid fat ddr players and asked if they could break here is there reply "Breaking is gay" I am like wtf ddr is gay you aren't dancing. Then they didn't say anything.

In my experience, one of the WORST things you can do, is make a crew BECAUSE everyone is a friend. yes, friends are good, but sometimes you miss out, or make wrong choices because you want to be in a crew with your friends.
Its perfectly ok to practice and session with your friends, but still be in crew without everyone. At first it may make thigns difficult, but in the long run it may help. Of course this isn't the case every where, or with everyone, but just a suggestion. It wouldn't be good to make a crew of say 7u friends, just to stop being friends, and have the crew split, or.. make a crew jsut because they are your friends, and pass up what you know would be a good choice, for them, because they are your friends. Look at.. why they are breaking... why you all want to join a crew. its nice to have... not so much qaulifications as.. some type of set guidlines of being in the crew. it wouldn't be right to have half the crew keep to practice schedules or showing up to battles and events and the other half blowing shit off. Ya'know? To make a crew wanted, you should try to innovate. Do something you don't normally see, or do something that people don't think is done anymore.. sometimes the retro thing works. Posting flyers is good, or getting the word out is good too, even if u have to start from scratch... taking a couple newbs, training with them everyday working getting better and having a solid crew is better then taking a really good bboy/bgirl just based on the fact they are good, when they really don't have an interest in the crew. Just my two sence. I hope I helped alil |

Dude - why would you want to form a crew of non-bboys?
Bad move. Just teach them, let them make their own path. It's VERY likely that you will absolutely HATE the path and approach that some of them will take, you don't want to be in a crew with them in that case. And if they just mess around - there's a good chance that they will eventually get bored and quit. Then you are left with a borken or split crew. |

amen to what stiff said... anyhoo, the best thing you could do is start a dancing club at school (not necessarily a crew), and practice with the club members... at first, since you guys would all be starting out (or most of you guys anyhoo), you guys shouldn't be much to look at, but that's just the way it is... then, with time, patience and much practice (and hopefully some group hugs along the way), you should be able to see those who are dedicated and those who dance to impress...
so then, and only then you'll find it easier to start an actuall crew... and from there all you'll need to worry about is the frequency of those group hugs... heh, when i first started bboying (my sophomore year at highschool), none of the 10 kids at our "breakdance club" really knew what they were doing... we were all starting out at roughly the same level... now, three years later, only four of us are still dancing, so that's who our crew is basically made of... there's also a bunch of other kids that have joined us recently (some newbies, which is okay), and some who came from the same background as the rest of us... anyhoo, my point is, if we had had a list of cool and creative ways withwich we could had started an actuall crew back then, i'm sure we wouldn't had come too far... so my advice to you is as follows (not in any particular order): worry about learning the culture first... practice bboying, since that's what you like... find people to dance with so that everyone develops their skills together and with the help and support of others... listen to people who know what they're talking about... have scandalist group hugs... practice practice and practice... respect others... anyhoo, after you feel like you've accomplished teh above 'steps,' start thinking about an actual crew that you'll want to spend time and effort in... a crew is more than just a group of drinking and dancing buddies... a crew is like a real special kind of family that emphicizes group hugs!!! |

I've heard some pretty good suggestions , I'm currently in the process of forming my own crew. For me it was kind of hard but the flyer idea is your best bet. If you have to ,scout around for people to join your crew. So far I'm up to four people , which will probably be good for a start , all I have to do now is get hella cardboard and music and we got practice. Originally I was going to ask a friend from highschool to join , when I was trying to form a crew ,but he was already in a crew. So I just looked elsewhere. Some good advice I have for anyone forming a crew is don't give up , and get a diverse crew so all your members will be as unique as individual members as they are as a crew.
