" Practicing underground " is a nicer way to say " slacking off and not going to sessions " , lol

it needs to stay underground..that's what keeps it so strong

if everyone was doing it..we wouldn't have a great thing like we do now

Okay, this is purely from what I have observed within the b-boy scene... The weaker b-boys are the ones who stay 'underground'... the stronger b-boys are the ones who frequently attend jams and battles... rip it hard - win or lose... go home and break even harder... the ones who improve faster are those who find they have a standard they can compare themselves to and work to meet and exceed that benchmark...

yes... it is nice to come out and surprise everyone... but most of the time - it does not work that way...

I am intrigued by your perspective... I have to say that I thoroughly disagree... care to elaborate for me?

read before you people answer , lol . he didn't asked if bboying should be underground or not ...
he asked if you rather practice alone and improve without other knowing OR practice at sessions or something and by that way everybody knows what's your level and what moves you got .

stay underground until u have something worth throwing down. ive been to a few jams and am still yet to throwdown at any, not because i wasnt up to their standard, because i believe i wudnt have made much of an impression.

when i throw down i want ppl to be like whoa whos this? know what i mean?

I always think about this - but when i'm at a jam and here the music i just cant resist - i don't care who's watching. Anyway the area where i live there are no other b-boys better that me so it's usually my only chance to get tips / new techniques from othere b-boys in person. But a good thing about living in my area i guess is that not many people know what we're practicing so it's nice to pull out new things when i'm with other b-boys which dont think you can do that certain move!

"it needs to stay underground..that's what keeps it so strong

I totally disagree. By saying that you disrespect every bboy that ever made his effort to invent new moves and showed it others, thus for he was the reason you can do it now, to represent a culture and to teach it others (only if they wanna know of course) is what keeps the culture from beeing missunderstood.
You said that to keep the fame imo and to impress others. But think about it. The first time you practiced a windmill you shortly began to realize how hard that f**** move to learn is when you start all over. That makes you understand more what others can do. And it wipes away the thought "that swirling looks cool, but not more. just posing"
Those who dont have the strenght to learn moves wont ever get to master them. Thats the good thing about every dance or martial art... you cannot just download a move then you're able to do it. Its always hard work.
I teach every1 what i can if he asks for, i'm not in with secrets actually. I wouldnt have learned that shit that fast without the effort other bboys b4 us that teached their knowledge to others over years and years

So much for the culture... for me personally... "I practice underground then blow up when I get out, psychs people out" thats it pretty much, thats just to get respect and have fun, i totally agree with that.

Word^

Drifter...the final project

Breaking can be whatever you want it to be. If you want it
to be the original, structured dance that it was 20 years ago,
then it can be that for you. If you want it to be your own
limitless form of expression, it can be that for you.
The world will never agree on what exactly Breaking is...
and if the world ever does agree, then I guess I won't be Breaking anymore.
