Just droppin in to see my B-Boy Cousins and to tell you guys about the sport of jamskating which is a combination of dance gymnastics and more importantlly Breakdancing
performed on rollerskates...... I skate for a team called Team Breaksk8 based out of Kokomo Indiana although we do have crews in Illinois Georgia Wisconsin St Louis and Tennessee we have 2 National invitation competitions every year and the sport has BLOWN UP!......we have a website www.Breaksk8.com you guys need to check it out and check out the videos I think you'll like what you see and see how breakin is expanding into other communities and how the B-Boy culture effects EVERYONE we have graffiti artists Poplockers etc in jamskating and it would be awesome to meet people that don't skate and show them what we do! my email is Curlyjammer@yahoo.com just email if you want to know more! |

i did some breaking on the ice in my iceskates the other day. footwork, mills, handglides and headspins. Handglides didn't work because i didn't have n e thing to grip to push myself round on, ice was to slippy hehe.

its actually more then gymnastics and breaking, theres stepping, poppin, and a lot of other things actually.
I had a chance to meet team roll line and a lot of the other teams that competed at nationals this year. From what Ive seen, a lot of the teams have huge egos and arent very good. |

I've seen roll line crew and some other jam skating teams who went to Nationals this year. I didn't think they were very good. A lot of the breaking they did, was commercialized and bad. They added a lot of dance styles into their routine, but to say its breaking on skates, is an overstatement. Like Anubis said, almost all of them had ego's and thought they were better then they were.
While i watched the show, anyone without dancing backround thought it was dope, but everyone who had dancing backround, thought it was alil lame. Maybe its diffrent out there, but the sponsored teams at Nationals weres that good. |

well maybe coming here was a mistake......I've always heard you guys were close minded but I prayed that it wasn't true and about it bein commercialized considering none of us has a breakin background or know anybody thats a serious b-boy there pretty good...we have our own style and different outlook yes some of the teams can be full of them selves but so can you guys I've seen on this board that you guys look for a reason to get into arguments......well even this can't destroy my love for the b-boy culture but I hope I find some people that aren't as close minded as the people here

How is it close minded to say we've seen it with our own eyes, and said we have found it lacking? Close minded would not being givin it a chance based on whatever reasons. We gave it a chance, the people we saw were arragant, cocky, and had an inflated ego.
I also said it may be diffrent there, but not at nationals it wasn't. |

like he said, close minded is not giving something a chance...
first of all, i did jam skate, second of all, ive been asked to coach it as 3 rinks, two up here and one down in florida, and lastly, ive talked to a lot of the teams. He didnt say its commercialized, he said the moves u use are the ones that are...and its true. Dont tell me I'm close minded when Ive probally been into it longer then you have. How can I boast about that...hm... How long have u been skating? and how long have u been jam skating? Bet you i got u beat on both of those. I'm not close minded, im actually very well informed of the subject thankyou. Funny, how I knew its a lot more then breaking and gymnastics on skates, its actually a lot of things, they use stepping, they use freestyle jumps and spin, routines or solos.. Personally, its a sham, I think it has potential but its so chalky and all over the place its kinda pointless. And the attitudes, yea ive met a lot of them...I beleive team roll line i met in Donora PA...and they had a major attitude and were talking shit until i asked them to battle and they just started saying shit about being on skates and i said id get mine. so dont tell me im close minded, ive been in ur lil sport, ive been offered coaching jobs because of my dancing and skating background, so before u tell me I'm close minded, why dont YOU get the facts about who your talking about. |

Hey everyone! Just so ya know, team Breaksk8 isn't the only team! There are tons of teams throughout the US that Jamskate, which I am sure you guys know by now that it incorporates some break dance into the routines. That video in the gallery section doesn't do it much justice! (heh) The guy in the ref shirt and then the twins (Derek and Eric in the green shirts) from that video are on my team. I am actually on a team called Team Riedell and we are based in Orlando, Florida. We travel all over the world performing shows for all types of events and we love it! There are two guys on my team that actually break dance and they use it to their advantage. Go check out Derek and Oscar at www.teamriedell.net if you got some time. Oscar is planning on attending Breaklanta. I am trying to get into it myself. I am SO close to a windmill it is nerve wracking. I have the Break Dance Instructional video from this site and it has helped me a lot. Oh, my team is also known as the Orlando Magic Jamskaters! We do performances for them all the time. They also have a breakin crew perform for them and they are off the chain! Well, ta ta for now!

LoL @ Anubis - Burn!
This comes around every once in a while. How can you basically say "none of us actually know any bboys" - and then go on to say you love the bboy culture? How can you compare doing a few moves that may relate to bboying in some way, with skates on, and connect that to bboying? Where's your footwork? If a BMX flatland rider does a headspin with his bike between his legs it doesn't make him a bboy - it makes him a BMXer who learned to spin on his head. Exact same goes for rollerskates. I've seen little bits of people doing this, and there's no comparisson. I'm not even going to be as nice as Anubis and co. - I thought it was straight up WACK! |
|
A bboy without style, is like a broken pencil.
There's just no point. |
