Flavor or power? -
12-03-2003, 10:06 PM
I've been faced with this alot lately. Peeps hit the floor and they've been like all power, flares and mills, 90's 2000's and swipes and whatever. When a crowd draws around they all like damn! But when a bboy goes to hit all footwork and hard soul and flavor toprock not many of them can dance for shiz! What's up with that? I'm mostly for good foundations and basics, keeping in the old school brooklyn rock and indian steps and all that, and some posers hate on me cuz I don't always go for a halo or something big like an airtrack. what do you all think? How should a bboy be based? Give me some feedback.

Ha! I heard your kung fu was strong and impressive. But you can not beat my style! HA HA HA lol J/k but we all know I'd win You have to become a part of the culture to learn the history, tradition and foundations behind it, along with the experiences it brings - Me "Posers" are the peeps, that personally I think, are those who are talk and no dance. If they can't get down and dirty on the floor like the dirt that flys from their mouth then grill 'em, sizzle fry their ass - Me |

however they want to be based - its personal opinion
power and style are both bboying, 1 jus more traditional then the other. all of it depends on how good u are @ it. I seen sum dope footwork ppl and sum dope power ppl, and then theirs the decent, and then the shit pile, and it doesnt matter ifu r 1 or both, ugotta practise and hit those moves. Peace _murda |

power with flava
if you've got style in all your moves power or footwork then you deserve props and the crowd...if your doin shit power and gettin more props than the person who throws down dope footwork you should get out of the circle and work on your style![]() |

Vin Diesel and the Internet - relation? I THINK SO
Vin Diesel invented the internet while trying to steal cable TV. Contrary to popular belief, it was in fact Vin Diesel who invented the internet. Al Gore stole the designs when Vin fell asleep at his keyboard. http://www.4q.cc/vin/index.php |

You got to have everythin to be a true b-boy/b-girl. You can't just base everything on style or everythin on power. You'll see what I mean when you only choose one and you battle someone with both. Prepare to get served.

If you ain't got flaour - you ain't got shit.
Simple as that. Personally I rock 99% "style" - I got a few tricks (swipes and the likes) - but on the whole it's all "tops, drops, footwork and freezes". I was out tonight doing nothing but rocking and bboying (non-power) and had a crowd going nuts. Was fun. |

I've become a foundational bboy and I love it...I just love seeing people have great tops and footwork to match it, its just so much more interesting then watch someone do flares and power that I've already seen a billion times...
flavor and power are both dope but I love foundation...I always think of power as gymnastics for some reason, not out of ignorance but its just how I see it...lol I could watch dyzze so many more times than boy from havikoro |

That's it right there. On the subject of havikoro, my mate was called out by little john a while back - while they were uprocking - my mate burned him. Of course - once he went down he left my boy for dead - but still - burned little john on tops and ups - not bad eh? |

damn, thats cool...
lil johns tops and ups are a bit too basic and stuff...his uprock is weird and I always see him do that same jerk where he grabs the guy and "throws" him up to the sky... I like lil john though, I dont know why but he seems cool, I dont think that he cares what people think of his moves and it shows when he dances...I like those things that he does where he does footwork and gets up and rolls down and back, its cool to watch... |

Yea - I do like him - like you said, kinda basic - but good with it.
I give him props that's for sure. And I definately like the "doesn't care" attitude. And as for that jerk - lol - when you see him rock - you're just WAITING for it to come out. ![]() |

Drifter...the final project
Breaking can be whatever you want it to be. If you want it to be the original, structured dance that it was 20 years ago, then it can be that for you. If you want it to be your own limitless form of expression, it can be that for you. The world will never agree on what exactly Breaking is... and if the world ever does agree, then I guess I won't be Breaking anymore. -Kujo, Soul Control |

I dont know wat is this "flavour" u guys talking about....forgive me for being dumb....but to me,of coz the crowds gonna love to see all those power moves than those footworks b'coz the crowds only like those things that they think they can't do....like standing one two hands, spinning on one hand and those things....but footwork and toprock,u do it with ur legs, that is something everyone can do,they think it is easy to do,to them, all they think is"how difficult is that,u just stand on ur legs and shake ur body around".....but only a true b-boy will really appreciate ur footwork and ur toprock coz they know how hard is it to get nice footwork and toprock.....thats me

to sum it up it basically comes down to: if you wanna impress a crowd, you do power. if you wanna impress bboys, do tops and footwork

Think about this...
Everyone who trains hard enough can learn power. Not everyone can learn to be a good dancer, hit moves to the beat, and have their own unique style. Who do you dance for? The crowd, to be the best dancer you can be, or to be the best athlete/gymnast you can be? |

The true meaning of a bboy to me would be being someone different. Having your own style of doing things. Being creative and having your own signature moves. The meaning of a true bboy to me is also being able good and familiar with all the elements of breaking.

a crowd who haven't seen nothing yat bout breaking would go gaga at everything but then there are always some people in the crowd whos gonna say i saw better than that..so just to shut them up powers are neccessary and well i dance coz i love breaking..but in all honesty i'd be lying if i say i don't have the intention to impress the crowd..well to me footworks are really dope and i would prefer to see a bboy doing his thing then busting all powers but then like i said diff people accordingly needs diff show tobe impressed!!
