School Shows - 12-03-2003, 05:41 PM

People saying that I am inactive and shit or that I dont cotribute enough so....Ima starting a topic which I havent done in the longest cause I want to see your peeps opinions/stories on this...

Yesterday in my high school there was a show because of some hispanic heritage or appreciation day or something (about 45% of my school is hispanic).

There were people performing different kinds of dances and stuff. Reggea, Salsa, Bachata, and some others that I cant really tell apart...;you already know what's coming up next but I'll still tell you...;

So as I was watching them perform, it occurred to me that I could bboy in the next show...the adrenaline instantly hit my bboy vessels and my heart started pounding from excitment(it still hasnt stopped). At the end of the show the speaker lady said that if people are interested in performing in the future show, they can see her and sign up...once I realized that I can really do it, I got nervous for some reason...all these thoughts came to my mind....

"what if I mess up? am I good enogh? I dont wanna make a fool out of myself, maybe I shouldn't do it..."

That day(12/2), when school ended, I had mixed feelings about it, on one side, I wanted to do it thinking that it will be a good test to see how I'll preform under that kind of pressure, also, you know...girls...enough said; on the other side, I dont really like showing off and people might hate because I bet that 98% of the school will expect head spinning and other power shit.......I'm not a power head, as some of you know I'm the flexible tricks/freeze kind of guy that has been working on footwork/foundation for the past few months or so, oh and I learned how to dance too....

I was waiting for the subway to come and started talking to my friend about the show, surprisingly he had the exact same thing in mind(he's been bboying for about 3 months, not practicing too hard, knows some foundation, cant dance too well).

I decided to take the challenge and signed up for the show...what helped me make the decision were some videos of my favorite bboys...I thought that if I want to be like them and make it as a bboy, I should do the show and prove myself...

Today me and that friend signed up, the lady told us that in 5 days they want to see our act...The show is on 12/17/03, we got about 2:30 to 3:00 minutes of the shows time for our performance, which is not as short as it sounds...so yeah, I'm hyped as hell and am working on making up the dopest routine my school will ever see...

Did any of you ever preform in a school show or were in a situation similar to mine?, tell me your story...and if you dont, it'd be nice to see your thoughts on this,

I'LL POST UPDATES ON WHATS UP AND HOW EVERYTHING IS GOING

peace bboy 4 life, erock

i was in the talent show when i was like 9 or 8...twas dope...performing is fun

I wouldn't worry to much about the pressure. Just let your adrenaline take over and you WON'T mess up. I mean think about it, isn't that the reason why people have adrenaline in the first place. Anwayz, thats dope that you've got a chance to bboy in a show. Nice to see someone who's taking advantage of bboyin opportunity...good luck

Vin Diesel and the Internet - relation? I THINK SO

Vin Diesel invented the internet while trying to steal cable TV.

Contrary to popular belief, it was in fact Vin Diesel who invented the internet. Al Gore stole the designs when Vin fell asleep at his keyboard.

dang, a whole 1/2 hour for you? your going to be so tired afterwards. If you school people are like the ones around my area, they wouldnt mind headspins and such, but will still be impressed with someone who can actually link stuff together. Perhapes you can learn the moonwalk or something if you dont know how to. just remember, people when thinking about 'breakdancing' think of the worm. and so easlily impresed most likely. So i dont think you'll have a problem with that part.

soviet - I'll see what I can do, I wanna see how it will look from the audiences point of view...

ground control - Murry Bergtraum High School, downtown manhattan, check out the pic below

watashi - I'll stick to foundation and add some flexible shit plus some funny acting, oh..and its not 30 minutes, its 3 minutes...lol, yeah, most likely they'll be impressed by anything but I still want to make it dope so I'll put alot of work into it...the only power I'll probably do will be some windmills

I'm having some problems with which song to choose, I have this one in mind but I dont know the title, I'll try to post a piece of it that I have in this one mixtape and see if anyone knows it

this is where my school is at

well i got a story...

me and my crew got a performance at a fashion show (yeah i know sounds stupid lol) we werent like being fashion people or anything we were just entertainment. i was nervous out of my mind and all that. so we got up there and started dancin and it turned out the crowd was easily impressed. they knew nothing about bboying, yet i got cheers for footwork (i dont do much for power) and my footwork was pretty basic at the time. anyways the stage was tiny so it would be hard to do power anyways...except for my short little asian friend, he was doin mills crickets jackhammers and all that. of course he got the biggest cheers cuz it was power but the crowd still gave cheers for footwork and you gotta give credit for that right? lol well anyways i almost fell off the stage doing a v-kick...that just gives an impression as to how small the stage was...but i saved it and still got cheers lol. we did good enough that they invited us back to break at the next one and that went a bit more smoothly...my only mistake in that was when i tripped over the lino as we rolled it out on the stage and the crowd was watchin . bit anyways it was great fun.

stick to your strong points...foundation and footwork if thats what you got. the crowd will be more gracious than you think.

haha, cool story pyro...

I'll stick to my strong points for sure, flexible freezes and lately footwork are my strong points I think so I'll mix that in the most...

I just called my "master", the guy that taught me how to be a bboy and he'll help me out with the routine...so its all cool so far

ah i kno where your school is. anyways, i do this kind of thing for SING (not sure if you have it in your school, but it's a big dance/sing/acting production thing). i'll try to give you the little advice i can from my experience.

first off, it's pretty nerve wrecking when you get up there. there's not much i can tell you to change that. it's not so bad when you start dancing tho. oddly enough ppl tend to go pretty nuts when you bboy, even if you're not a power head and you don't have the best shit in the world. footwork can impress ppl just as well as power, just make sure you're fast, on beat, and not sloppy. freezes can really make up for a lack of power moves and can even impress those kids that think breakdancing is made up of a bunch of guys spinning on their heads. if you're doing it with your boy, make sure you play off each other's strengths. also make sure you get the crowd involved in that shit, it helps.

hmm, not sure what else i can really say. just do your thing and dance yo ass off..haha. naw, but you'll do fine, just be confident, and kno you're going to kill it.

i should do that at my school. i wonder if they have a talent show. maybe i could break during a play intermission. there's like no bboys at my school so they'd probly think it's cool.

thanks man, I'll do that...my footwork is pretty fast and I can stay on beat as well...once when I was breaking at Union Square in Manhattan I did one of my flexible combos and people just went out of their minds, one guy even gave me a bottle of gatorade for free...lol

thanks for the advice, I'll work my ass off on the routine tomorrow, I wont stress with tops and footwork though, I think I'll just freestyle that...i'll see what happens

lol, Union Square was one place that made me realize how much I sucked...I went down and couldnt do shit, after that I practiced like mad for like 2 months, came back and was like a different person lol...public preformances are a good thing, they let you see what you're really made of...

hehe, I love having beef with someone when I break...I always do that with this bboy named ra-ra, from BKC, maybe you heard of them...

by the way, how old are u? which HS you go to if you're that age?
