Personally, my parents don't even know....but they wouldn't really care, because I'd tell 'em I do it to build muscle/work the muscle I have. Whether it's a 'waste of talent' or not is irrelevant.....if you get the courage up, tell 'em that.
Breakin's one of the fastest ways to build muscle, since your weight naturally increases....so all you'd be doing is improving your "Football playing ability".....or whatever sport your dad likes. lol Peace. |

if you want, you could ask em how expressing yourself, and having fun is a waste of talent.
bring in the things you COULD be doing instead. ok dad insteada dancing, ill watch tv. every time i feel the urge to go express myself, get some excercize, and feel better about myself, ill go waste away in front of a television, or maybe i could lie to you about where im going and get high with the shadey characters of my school, because dancing is such a waste of time. that sound good? may be a little agressive, so you could just say dancing is better than what the rest of the worlds doing, im not going out and doing drugs....ect no what i mean? or maybe get him to understand that its expression, excercize, you like it and thats all that should matter, and if you get desparate, you could say that hes not gona be able to stop you from dancing all the time. maybe sometime if you're good at it, show him! just be liek dad look at how i waste my time, and show him something that he could never imagine doing. |

oh they really don't like it...they detest it with a passion now since I dislocated my shoulder doing airchairs awhile back and the doc said i'm "officially retired...". I swear, that musta been the happiest day in my moms life to hear those words. she thinks just about everythings dangerous...like she tried to ban me from doing inverts because I could "hit my head" even though it's supposed to be at my chest..rofl
nothing they can do about it though obviously. I never break when they are home and they know that I do it when they aren't around so they don't get pissed off at the loud noise and music which they don't like either. so it works. |

Drifter...the final project
Breaking can be whatever you want it to be. If you want it to be the original, structured dance that it was 20 years ago, then it can be that for you. If you want it to be your own limitless form of expression, it can be that for you. The world will never agree on what exactly Breaking is... and if the world ever does agree, then I guess I won't be Breaking anymore. -Kujo, Soul Control |

im surpised some of your parents actually call it bboying, mine just call it breakdancing, so when i talk about it around them, i call it breakin'. My mom supports me to a point, and my dad i donno. But i donno, my first real session (and after that ive been injured) i put my cardboard down on our cement patio, to practice, and they got all worried and stuff, and wanted me to practice inside on the carpet or on the tramp.

my fam dont realy care either way. shes seen me dance 1000000 times before. aswell as everyone else in my fam back when i still lived at home. id be like look mom im spinning on my head and shed be like thats nice foolish.
but about the waste of talent i never got that sayin. it would be a waste of talent not to dance. waste of talent means to waste ones talent by not using it. so i think he sublimaly tellin ya to dance |

it's funny tho when I was into graff they didn't care half as much, they definately didn't like the fact that it was illegal and i'm sure they worried, but they didn't say much other than my dad didn't accept it as art...
it's odd |

after reading all of this i feel lucky...my parents think its really cool and are actually encouraging me to persue a career in bboying buz they know its my one true passion. even my grandfather thinks its great...he watches me when i session and gives me ideas about new things to do. he doesnt really know anything about it so all his ideas are really unique...even though most of them dont work lol i get the occasional idea that works really well though. i dunno maybe my parents just pretend to like it cuz they know if they ever said it was a waste of talent i'd flip out on them and like kill them lol
