yeah jman those ppl piss me offf
the thing that pisses me off is that its ur own right, becoz its your own body its not the principals body so its not gonna cause harm to him, unless ur breakin in a crowded place where u can hurt others where as other juggling with knives or throwing a baseball around people could harm others around you, and a knife could even hurt you you have the right to do what you want with your own body in my opinion. i guess if you get injured the school are responsible in a way. but then again theres sports like rugby and football (aussie rules) which are way more dangerous the bboying ive been playing aussie rules for yrs now and ive had alot of bad injuries and i know that sports like that are way more fuckin dangerious than bboying |

The thing is that those are school "sanctioned" n supported by not only the school n faculty but also the parents. No matter what sport u play n how dangerous it is, u HAVE to have someone there who knows what to do when it comes to running the thing, someone who knows what to do in an emergency n someone to take responsibility..
it may not be the principal is shitting on u at all, but that u really do need someone there to watch u who knows whats going on so u dont take any reckless risks the schools isnt somewhat responsible for you, as long as ur in the school they are completely responsible n thats a BIG risk to take. |

Dont bite the hand that feeds u, eventually everyone helping u will get annoyed...jesus.
Beginners giving beginners tips without understanding what they are saying is probally one of the worst ways to spread KNOWLEDGE.....which is the key to anything in life.

read the post a little clearer a) i am not the one who is talking about my needs to practice b) is there a hint of pure animosity anywhere in the post? no, so your ignorant homophobic rant is unnecessary. c) evidently you do give 2 shits about what i think, maybe even 3 and a half a little quick with the temper, eh make like epmd and just chill |

okay
from a different perspective here i have to buy my own health insurance because i'm now officially an expatirate ( i don't reside in a country where i am a citizen ) . I can get pretty decent coverage for getting sick and getting hit by a bus , and if i paid an extra $40 a month i could get extreme sport coverage , that would take care of me if i were snowboarding or hang gliding and so on . But it WILL not cover me for any injury recieved while doing an organized group activity unless it is one of the extreme sports specified in the added coverage . Basically what this means , is that if i am breaking by myself or in a club spontaneously , then i may be able to finangle coverage . But if i go to an open practice or a class , i'm on my own and if i break my neck , it's my own damn problem. So my point is , that your school may have liability worries , as well as being worried about having to answer to people who lump all of bbboying / graff/ gang activities together in to one huge " ghetto thing that is trendy right now " category . I break too .I feel you . But you've got to also see the other side before you can go around spitting and pissing because somebody wasn't going to let you use their equipment and space for something . HOpefully your gym coach can help you out - probably there is a clause somewhere that specifies that any athletic club has to be supervised by a qualified adult .Insurance isn't any joke . Schools are lacking funding , they need to keep what they get and a lot of that has to do with pleasing superiors . From your perspective , all that you can see is that your school , which makes you go there for 6 hours out of every day , won't let you do something you love , but from their perspective , they have to defend their choices to other organizations and leaders, and keep tabs on hundreds of kids , every day. It's not easy . When i was 14, i started a dance program in my school - i taught ... we used the drama costume room , then a home ec room . It took me a year of negotiation with first of , high school counsellors, then some teachers , then finally the principal , before i could getit started , but when it did , i had gained the respect of most of the staff . What it takes is listening to their concerns , then trying to address each one of them and treat it as if you are solving problems, not just trying to get what you want with no concern for their side . negotiate good luck |

Yeah I know this is an old post but I figure I might as well say something.
I been interested in hip hop and the various styles associated with it for a while and only recently (about a month ago) got into popping. At my school we have always had a couple breakers in my year level who would do some stuff out the back sometimes. This year we went up to the senior part of the school and we saw some guys practicing handstand freezes and so forth on the grass so I figured I could try and get a place for practice. This is where it is alot different to your experiences. I just asked one of the teachers if we could use the gym at lunchtimes when there is nothing happening in there...they would let us in and let us do our thing. When we cant get in we go to the drama room or whatever. We have had teachers walk in and they dont care whether we are breaking or whatever else we are doing. We are starting a crew so that might allow us to book rooms or the gym like the other sports can do. And I guess the same as everywhere, whenever someone hears music they go check it out. This brings about groups of spectators when most of the time we just practicin moves. However I had expected heaps of people who seem to appear in these groups such as your average "do a windmill" person who has no clue about breaking and the people who say breaking is gay or whatever. This was not the case with only 1 or 2 of these people so far. Most love it and ask how we do everything so it is becoming easier to bust where ever we are. Well just thought I would add my piece. peace |

I've had enough fun and games, its time to REALLY practice and improve and I'm back and better. |
