Okay, that last post was written in a hurry, cos the library was closing and I was about to get booted off the computer. Now I have a bit more time, here's some detail...
I ain't 100% sure how many of us are going to be heading over just yet.
Basically, a UK newspaper is giving away free flights to the USA, so I'm gonna be making the trip. There’s one or 2 others that might be coming, but there's a whole load of things that is relying on.
Anyway, I don't know where I'm going to be flying to, with this offer, I could end up flying to Atlanta, Boston, New York or Washington. I have to tell them which I prefer, and if they have flights available, I go there, if not, it goes to second and third choice.
Once I arrive, I reckon I'll be doing a fair bit of travelling around. I can be there anything up to 3 months with this offer, but I ain't too sure I'd be able to afford that.
I also ain't 100% sure
when I'll be coming, the offer is valid from Jan 3rd to April 30th 2004, so sometime between those dates.
What I really need to know is this...
1> Where to go... Cities with good scenes, places to check out, if it's worth visiting, let me know.
2> When to go... Primarily for events and jams if there's a "must see" or even a local bash going on, then let me know places and dates so I can try to plan to be there.
3> Where to stay... Whether it's a hotel, motel, hostel, or a spare bed at someone's house, I'm gonna need a place to stay wherever I go. Not too expensive, but I don't wanna stay in some flea-pit or places where I'll get robbed in my sleep. (Oh yea - if you're a weirdo who gets victims from the net, don't bother - whenever I go somewhere with the offer of crashing at the house of someone I've not met, I have a hotel booked as backup so if I meet you and you're a slimeball or look like a murderer - I'll kick you in the shins and split)
4> How to get around... I need to know how to expect to get around in individual towns/cities, so when I get there I don't have to look like a tourist (read "target") with city maps and information points.
I also wanna get a rough idea on ways to get around America (And I suppose Canada could be on the cards too) - I've heard horror-stories about the Trains/Greyhound etc in the US, so some local advice would be appreciated.
So... If your town, city or local scene should be on the agenda for the "Stiff_UK World Tour of America (and Canada)" - snappy name eh - then let me know.
Again, any help would be much appreciated, and will result in the buying of beer upon my arrival (assuming I have money to spend on beer that is)
Oh yea - If you post, tell me the legal drinking age in your state. It ain't a big issue, cos I'm an old codger and am old enough to drink anywhere in the US, but you never know, if there's some younger heads coming with me, or if I meet underagers, then it could come in handy.
Anyway - enough from me. I'll be on for about 20 minutes now, and all going to plan I should be on again tomorrow, I'm going to 2 libraries to get around the 2 hours per day limits (crafty sod).
Peace
