BREAKIN' is a skill you have earned. Use it! (my article :P) -

bboying has grown in to me a lot since i started
i remember when i first started breakin, all i wanted was windmills... and the simple reason was to impress people.
yes lame ,,, but its those power moves that interested me and got me in to breakin, so learning those moves id seen on tv and performances was something i looked up to, and wanted to be able to do.
and the feeling of impression and amazement i experienced when i saw bboys bust these unbelievable power moves before i started, was the feeling i wanted to put on a croud if i ever learnt them.
but watching real bboys frequently teaches you the beauty and originality of the dance. surely i love power. and when my friends ask me to bust a move or a group of chicks at a party are dancing and i dance, i would bust a power move- not for the simple reason that im a show off, but to show them i have skill.. yes skill... now to us bboys we should all know that all aspects of bboying including toprock, footwork, power and freezes all take skill effort and practice. but to many others who dont know what breakin is about, its power that impresses them the most
now to me thats fair enough. but right now it has grown to me that its the dance i love. all aspects of it. i love watching in someone who can dance. nice tops and uprock is so amazing to watch. and i think if you showed any person a good toprock and uprock, regardless if they are a breaker or not, they will be equally impressed.
now i think its the perfection of the four elements of breakin that separates power from the rest. now if you show a group of non- breakers some scrappy windmills and maybe half a flare , they would be very impressed. but on the other hand if u showed them some scrappy off-the-beat toprock, and some rushed footwork and a half a second freeze, they would think ur a complete newbie. what im trying to say here is, you have to perfect your toprock, footwork and freezes in order for them to look good whereas, power can be only half learnt for them to look good from a non-breakers eyes.
before, i said, the first thing i would do if i showed a croud my moves, i would bust a power move. but after that i would definitely get in to the dance and do some original footwork and end it with a tight freeze. you have to prove ur a bboy. power seeks the attention (regardless if it is scrappy or not) but style seeks ur originality and ur ability to dance.
so next time your in a situation where you wanna show ur breakin skills, i say to you, DANCE. if your gonna do windmills or flares, MAKE SURE u add some ability and skill of ur dance with some incorporation of ur footwork and toprock or whatever, during your seconds of fame. a simple power move is only a party trick if you do it alone, and any dam person will realize that afterwards.
so dont go around thinking that power is the only thing people are impressed by coz ITS NOT. whether you decide to do power moves, footwork, freezes, toprock or all of the four, SHOW THEM THAT YOU CAN DANCE, SHOW THEM THAT YOU HAVE SKILLS, SHOW THEM THAT YOU CAN KEEP TO THE BEAT, coz in the end that is what will impress people the most, and make you unique to the rest- not how many flares or mills you can do.
Breakin' is a skill you have earned from all ur effort from practice. You have worked hard to become what you are now. You deserve props! So give it ALL!
peace and keeping on dancing
This one time...this hot chick rings me up and says to me in a horny voice, ''Oh baby come over now, no ones home''.... So I went over to her house and no one was home..
