A Bboy in Need of Help... - 09-05-2003, 09:47 AM

Hi everybody name's Bboy PK and i need some real help mentally... i have been breaking for 3ys now im on my 3rd year, and i have been recently breakin wit this guy who has been breakin for 1 yr and he can do like all the power moves i cant and i try so hard to do but he ends up teaching me. Now this may not be a big deal however breaking for me is alot more then just a dance it is like apart of my life it is like spiritual for me and to have someone so much better then me at wot i love best and i end up learning from him and not the other way around really makes me feel like i should give it up and just quit breakin period.
I know this probably seems like a little kid going through a small crisis but im 17 and to me this is like a huge wall in the middle of my mind that i just cant get over. anyway i just wanted to know if any of u guys/girls have any experience in this field and anyone who could give me some advice to a young Bboy who is thinking of quiting if something doesnt happen soon... thanking you in advance Bboy PK.

- Peace out, j~One

dont worry man, I love bboying just as much as you do.....its all I ever think about, maybe even more than about chicks....

there are people around me that can do lots of power that have been breaking for less than I have, while I can only do wack windmills and a wack flare.....
but on the other hand they cant do flexible stuff that I do, plus a bunch of air/ground freezes.....
remember that power is not the most important thing in bboying....it is the most flashy and popular thing but not what is the essence of the dance, its how you express yourself, how you interpret your own style into moves that everyone else does and make them look different in your own way.....

so dont quit breaking just because of some kid that can do power better than you....keep dancing if you love it so much, and concentrating on other aspects of it because maybe power just aint your thing....

ok well if i was giving advice id be telling u to quit....but since u have so much potential u should keep goin..the reason being im 19 and when u get to that age ....tell me how much better are u gonna be than me? alot of course! So if i were you dont let your talent go to waste ....there are many others who d give their time and effort just to learn what u have!

One easy and quick response to this question : DOn't quit!

Just out style him. Style > power IMHO in most cases.

try bustin new moves. sometimes its better to take a break then get back at it. so take like a week break from breakdancing then get back into it. Im usually hott right when i do that. Plus you gotta be smart B. Dont just know the moves, you gotta feel the moves, be able to lay it down. Dont be afraid to tear it up. Act like you battling someone or break in the mirror and just practice your style. Its all about your style, some people learn faster then others. keep it up

True. You don't even have to practice more...just practice smarter. Don't just dance and session and call it practice. Actually train just like any other athelete. Work out regiments for yourself, work on specific moves for a specific amount of time, learn what you need to work on most and concentrate on it.

Don't give up. I was in the same position as you about a year ago. Now I can serve the people that I was once jealous of.

maybe he's just naturally good at that. u kno how u get pissed at people who get good grades in school without studying, and there are others who study their ass off and still get the same grades. some people require more practice to get to certain levels of achievement. really, there's no need to get frustrated. you're probably much better than him at other things. maybe just not bboying.

listen kid, just becuz dat kid has more powermoves dun mean shit.
so whut if he has more powers,it just means he practices like crazy or has a talent of learning fast.
Quittin becuz sumone who has been breakin less then u have more moves.I bet u have more style then dat kid,and style always ownz power.
