No, it's impossiable to 'wear down' ligaments, they keep bones together, so there's nothing rubbing against them to wear them down.

ligaments and articular cartilage are two differrent things. landing hard places an impact that could potentially wear down the cartilage, which would lead to arthritis much later on down the road, but most of the athletic population is at risk for arthritis anyway. the ligaments don't necessarily "wear down" but they do get naturally weaker with age. what your teacher probably was referring to was repeated injury to his ligaments (tons of ankle sprains). what happens in cases such as his is that the injuries lay down scar tissue, which is stronger than ligamentous tissue but also has little to no elasticity, making it easier to tear. over time, with repeated injury without treatment, the ligament then becomes lax, and puts you extremely at risk for further injury.

basically my advice to you is that you're completely fine as far as ligaments go, but if you do get injured, make sure to take the proper steps to rehabilitate the area to prevent further injury.

yea haha dont worry, when we started our segment on shoulder health in my class and they talked about how bad posture is so dangerous, i sat up straight every day in class the rest of the semester. when teachers say stuff that scares you it's hard not to listen

Well my ligaments have loosened off the bone so much i have to wear an ankle brace every time i do any sport or similar crap. Walking on uneven surfaces, flexion and dorsi flexion of the ankle creates an intense pain.
and this happened from bboying lol...

I'm trying this new treatment though, prolotherapy...hopefully it works
if not then surgery

so i dunno if it's wearing my ligaments down...but it sure as hell loosened them off the bone and that, is painful as well as makes it about 100x more likely to roll your ankle again.

Not entirely sure, but I think that this condition [and similar ones] is person [NOT activity] specific. As in, someone might do all that you do yet not end up with the problem. For example some Korean [Yeah cliche much] Bboys train 4-7 hours a day and are able to do everything fine.

Point being, it probably can screw you over in several, but if your not consistently hurting yourself, I very much doubt it will at all (Bboying that is).

Whoa, too many brackets but:
