When did Jabba First wear the mask - 07-15-2009, 03:48 PM

The earliest footage I can find of them wearing the mask is at the FSC Anniversary on November 12, 2004.

Does anyone know any earlier events /dates when they were wearing the masks?

There is a clip showing a rehearsal of there's which ends with the FSC Aniversary performance, but I can't figure when that was shot.

Does anyone know when that rehearsal took place and where?

There is also another video which looks like it's Kevin at a festival wearing the mask - called Faceless Freestyle 2004 by Kevin Brewer. It's at

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...9C877A17F91A4D

Again, I have no idea what festival that was, or when it was shot.

Does anyone have any clue, or any other clips showing them wearing the mask any earlier than November 2004? If so, can you link to them and shed some light on what events and locations they were?

Yea, like Venilla stated, I think they took it from Expression. It's a good concept. And they were smart to use it for marketing.
"Oh the Jabbawockeez? The people in the masks right?"
Very clever.

Thanks Venilla

They claim that it was Medea Sirkas (aka Demons of the Mind), that they got the idea from, but I'd have to agree with you that it was more likely to be Expression (or a more recent influence) that they really got it from.

Expression did the mask thing at BOTY in 2002, and used it in Marrionette and Wizard, but I'm seeing that Jabba was still maskless in 03.

PREPIX did a mental performance at the 2005 korea street Jam Final in Tokyo, where they also wore the masks

But, like I say, I'm seeing that Jabba was still maskless in 03 and masked (I think) at FSC Anniversary on November 12, 2004

Not Jabba obsessed...
No Book report...
Not insecure about my skills...
just dont like a half told story...

Figured that there would be someone on here that had the skinny.

Wearing masks doesnt always have to be from expression... it could be that they watched a marrionette show and said "hey we could wear mask and break!"

Thanks beaniekapp

Media Sirkus are insane. But I too am having doubts figuring what the catalyst was. Expression / Media Sircus ? or what?

Medea Sirkus was around since forever, and was doing the mask thing for a long time. But if Media Sirkus was the influence, as I hear Jabba claim, then I would have expected Jabba or one of their former crews to have used it earlier than November 2004. I cant find any of them using it - Mindtricks included.

Then again Expressions used it as early as BOTY 2002 and, I still dont see Jabba using it before November 2004.
