questions about THE REAL bboy lifestyle - 07-08-2009, 12:51 PM

yeah, because i got screwed over again because
a certain teacher didn't like me.. I got kicked off school.

And since they failed me for 2 times already i'm NOT
gonna do it over again, it would take me 2 more years
to finish high school and that would make me 20 years old..

screw that. I'm not going to any other school and I don't feel
like working all day because if I do I can't practice anymore..
So here I go, making a really hard decision. I've decided I want
to live from bboying. I just wanted to ask some questions
about how this is, do any of your friends live from bboying?
how do they do it? about how much do they make?

and also a very important question for me, What's the easiest way
to find dance school (or something like that) to teach bboying?

Because now I teach at 1 spot, if I'd find a few other spots I
could pay for a small apartment and get out of house..
because yeah, you guessed it. Me and my parents don't
get along either..

Well if anybody has something that could help me, I'd be
glad to hear it. Thanks in advance

Go to school until your 20, or work like hell for the rest of your life.

I feel what your saying, ever since I started teaching at rocschool (a small dance school) and spending less time studying my parents and me started fighting almost every day, so I moved into a really small apartment for a monthly rent and shit. My parents hardly talk to me now...it's all what you want to do...

Would say G.E.D., but first it's got to be GOD. I've felt serious like you are now about a real bboying lifestyle, but I know it's bigger than that. Not everyone takes it as serious as others, but just pay attention to the ones who show love and respect to the art and to other people the way you'd agree with...and continue to teach for the reasons that you started with. In times of desperation comes the truest test of who you are and where you want to take it, so it's a good thing. Thank the annointed savior.

I just graduated from High School and I'm 20 years old, there's nothing wrong with that. Or you can go to one of those places where they help you graduate in 6 months or something ( I don't know if they got those over there though).

But consider what could happen in the future. I mean you can get injured and hopefully you won't, but who knows, anything could happen while you bboy or even without having to be bboying that could really damage something in your body, and then what you gonna do? I say you finish school and get a real job. It might be nice to be bboying for a living, but seriously, how far do you think you're going to get? Probably just enough money to eat, unless you look almost everywhere to get yourself up and famous, but that's just as much hard work as it would if you studied probably. But if you study for something, you won't have to be worried if you get injured or something, and the injuries could affect your bboying for life. Just really think about it.

I know one person who makes a living entirely from breaking. I don't even know him so much as the head of my crew is close with him...

His name is Roxrite. He does what he calls freelance bboying, so he might do a tour or a show or teach classes. Everyone else I know who makes money from breaking does it as a side job and at the very least has a part time job on the side... if anything if you work in breaking you'll have to work twice as hard as you would not breaking... which essentially means you'll be killing yourself for shows and choreo and may not even get that time to practice that you would if you just had a 40hr a week job.

Think hard about this... cuz honestly I think you're about to make a mistake.

i know where your coming from bro. I would hate school if it wasnt form the bboy club after skool and my Crew.. Seriously i know bboying is like the best thing that happened to me bro its just helps me get by..But i love it more than skool but i know i need skool. All the old heads that break finished highschool and have a steady job but they balance it.. So u suld go to skool get ur G.E.D get a job and break your pain away seriously as horrible as that sounds...Do your thing bro..just living off of breaking is too hard and u need ur G.E.D.(yes i plan to make a living off of breaking but that time will come later)

You should stay in school. If you watched any bboy documentary, you would know that most bboys start out with nothing, they they bboy for a better life.

I know one guy who i think lives off of bboying, but hes still in college, but he teaches at like 4 different places lol.

keep syrenz PERMABANNED.

i would definitely say stay in school man. you have a talent. if you really pulled some strings and bounced around dance studios (while staying in school) and kept your grades respectable this year, maybe you could get into a fine arts private school on some type of scholarship and do what you love while being in school. finishing school and being able to get a legitemate job would realistically do more for bboying as a whole than you dropping out and teaching classes. you could open so many more doors for yourself and for bboying by finishing high school at the very least. don't give up my dude.

Every professional bboy I personally know had at least graduated from high school. You at least need that education. I'm not saying its impossible but it's not a wise idea to just making a living offa bboying. Especially now, the economy is in the shitter and entertainment, let alone dancers, let alone bboys, isn't the highest demand right now. Use strict time management to balance bboying and school. I do that. And it works. Just forget your ego and graduate when you're 20. I knew people who graduated from high school at 20 also

Don't whore yourself using bboying to make a means to an end. There are betters ways. And thats not to knock Roxrite, hes doing his thing, and is probably really the only person I know to really do it right, for obvious reasons. You should fall in love with a career, not fall back on bboying. None of us here are going to do it forever.
