fucked up my hamstring -
05-16-2009, 04:12 AM
alright so about 2-3 months ago i was doing a straddle stretch and pushing myself to get more flexibility. just as my head was near the floor in front of me i heard a loud pop and my hamstring gave out immediately. after the two days it got a lot better so i figured it was one of those things that was just gonna heal by itself.
the problem now is that i still feel a strain when i stretch it after all this time and i don't have the same flexibility as i did before i fucked it up. i can still v kick and hit a shitty invert but its really fucked me over for power where i need to have the legs in a wide V stance. i know this ain't a doctor's forum and i'm gonna get it checked out but i figured somebody here has experience with this and knows a trick or 2 to help it get better faster. I've given it some rest like i stopped stretching for a while and i've taken breaks from a few days long to about a week, plus i haven't been working moves that would aggravate it. so any advice? |

get better faster?
theres no quick fix to injuries. by the sounds of it you've torn your hamstring and now you'll have some scar tissue meaning it is more likely to tear again if your not careful. i say f*** the doctor, go to physio.. they'll give you flexibility exercises and strengthening exercises which you really need to do to get strength back in that area. Plus you get the therapeutic massage which will loosen the muscle and help it feel better..also they got machines to get rid of inflammation and can give you tips and advise you when your ready to go back. good luck. |

I injured mine about half a year ago, also heard a pop etc... It was pretty swollen and blue, hurt like a bitch.
In the first couple of days, especialy just after the injury R.I.C.E is the is the best thing you can do. Rest, ice, compression, elevation... After this much time, you cant really do much. I was out for a month. Just do the exercises that doesnt hurt your hamstring and you should be ok in a couple of weeks. And yeah, you probably have some scar tissue and your flexibility wont be the same as before. Strech slowly and youll get near, but dont fuck it up again Also, I heard that massage really helps, so if you can afford it go for it, or find some tutorials on the internet. Hope I helped, hope u get well soon |

I heard that pop while doing halos.....I was out too....I applied some ice and a volatile ointment before going to bed everyday....for like 2 weeks....also did minor stretches after the first week....never stressed that muscle too much...but made sure that it was warm....and then iced it again and applied the volatile ointment.....volatile = first it becomes so fucking hot lol....(I had an injury near my groin so u can imagine....I was like jumping up ouch...fire in my balls)....then it cools down....and uber sexy feeling......get a lot of rest....and try to place a thick pillow under ur knee when u go to sleep......also...kinda stretch ur body when u sleep....provides better blood circulation....just make ur legs a lil V (not too much...u should be relaxed)....place both legs on pillows and rest....
I had this like 2 times....and I recovered in less than a week once....and 2 weeks the other time.... |

Like Mandos said, next time this happens do RICE treatment, its proven to reduce scar tissue and get you back in the game much quicker.
For next time do anything you can to stop blood flowing to it, it may sound strange but too much blood will damage the ligament permanently. The blood overflows to cause pain and immobilization of the muscle to try and stop you from moving, but this only works if you don't know how to listen to your body. This also means not moving or touching it for the first 48 hours if possible. RICE is really only effective in the first 48 hours, and trust me ive had my doubts too but it really works. But now you should go to a physio to clean it up. He will probably put suction cups on the affected area and massage it to loosen up the muscle, because usually it becomes really really tight when you pull it. He will give you some excercises to do to help you get back into shape quicker. Thats what happened when i pulled my groin. Theres no silver bullet to the problem though, its all about the fact that next time you should be prepared so when it happens you know exactly how to stop it from getting worse. I used to go to the physio after pulling a muscle and i would still be out for weeks to months. Now i just treat it with RICE and ive found i don't need to go to the physio anymore because i would recover in just a week or two. |

i did the same thing. i wasnt stretching i pulled 2 layers of deep muscle in my hamstring. i had 2 take 2 months =/. but of coarse i didnt COMPLETELY take 2 months off. but i still feel the affects of it 2day. it doesnt bother me or any thing its jus a loss of flexibility. ....but its been a year haha.
so give it a rest and do some LIGHT stretching. |
