Varsity Dance Team - 05-09-2009, 11:54 PM

i have a dilemma (that's why I'm posting)
My school has a varsity dance team.
My town is in weschester. We are all rich and as a result, people think Akon is hip-hop. (if you're thinking he is, get a life).
So I'm the only bboy and only a few of my friends know what real hip-hop is.
My school's dance team is only made up of girls who do hip-hop dancing, but have no idea of the culture and their dance is more pop than hip-hop. No bboying, popping, or gliding. More like homo dance moves.
So basically, it's a bunch of high school girls shaking and doing arm movements.
They invited me to join.
Because I'm a bboy. I did a dance off with them for a school fundraiser (it wasn't homo, it helps kids in Africa), and it took one round (one set) to destroy.
Should I join?
My friends are thinking it's two hours after school with high schools girls every day.
And the uniform for them is like short shorts. So naturally, they want to be in.
So should I join?
I was thinking if I joined, I would teach them bboying and teach them what hip-hop is about.
If I didn't join because they are a bunch of rich white girls who don't understand hip-hop, it would show that I stand up for hip-hop, because chances are they wouldn't understand hip-hop anyway.
What should I do?

I would definitely go...

"heres a tip: i like to make lots of sets. to see what flows, i just think, "Do a random toprock!" so i do that. next i go, "do a footwork!" and i try to flow well into it. next, i think, "do a _____!" and i do that, making sure it flows.
do that for awhile."-Gloves

Join, and give it a try. If you don't like it after a week or something then leave.

When you're on the team, don't expect that everyone's going to learn how to b-boy, in fact, I foresee that you're going to be learning how to do choreo.

Trust me. If the majority is choreo, then that's how they'll continue on. They'll have spotlights for you, but majority of the dance is going to be "arm movements and shaking".
Just the heads up. For the hiphop part, be strong in your feelings about hiphop but don't shove your ideas down people's throats. If they have questions about b-boying and hiphop in general, answer them. Just don't go out of your way to remind them about it or they'll resent it.

My school has something exactly like that, they make up the moves themselves, and it's all choreo. I wouldn't join just for the girls, that's kinda lame.

start a crew then battle them at a school event

oblitarate them

then they might want to try real shit

but i wouldent join cuz they would just end up teaching you the gay stuff that you would get down in 2 min and it would be boring as hell because like what freydom said the majority of it would be waving your arms around doin boring shit

KRS one: hip means to know its a form of intelligence to be hip is to be up to date and relavent. hop is a form of movment you cant just observe a hop you gotta hop up and do it hip and hop is more then music hip is the knowledge hop is the movement hip and hop is intelligent movment.

Do it!
That's just like my school, i think im the only person in my school that breaks, seriously, everyone's really rich and white and stuck up. But my school had a hip hop dance team with all girls and my black and Asian friends joined (two boys), they are already in their own crew but they said why not, and they got most of the main parts and the most attention because they were good, really good.
Its not lol.... or weird. its cool!
Plus you get a lil extra time wit da ladiesss.

im sure they would be jealous of me because out of my whole school, if they knew i'm one of the best. the only/best bboys out there are in my school. (They would be jealous of me/my skills because out of my whole school, I'm the best.)

but i don't feel like participating in shows with big audiences or i'm (?) shy, i guess.

but, lol id love too see how they're faces react if they ever see me bboy.. they'd be like....

soo astouned(you mean, astonished?).. and wonder why i didn't join..
Conceited much? (also, fixed) ugh, that was a pain in the ass.

If you have a talent, share it with the people around you. Don't keep things to yourself (unless you're one of the those 'full of themselves' people like this guy). Let them know what hip hop really is.

My choice would be to give it a shot. If you really can't change their views of hip hop or whatever, then quit. It's not gonna hurt you anyway. You've been given the chance, I suggest you take it.

I can't leave.....it's a 3 month commitment.
As for teaching them....i don't know
and as for joining for the girls *coughcoughcough*
that would be ok.
I don't think I would learn the homo stuff of dancing. I respect bboy culture too much.
they want me to join tho.
as for obliterating them....did it already.

For jeopardy especially...no, i'm not a drama queen.
It's not for the fame.....i mean...I'm popular enuff.

Don't believe me?
I live here.

" Armonk 63 up, 3 down love it hate it

A small hamlet located in northern Westchester County. It immediately adjoins Greenwich, Connecticut but lacks Greenwich's extreme wealth and mansions. The school district is highly rated and routinely produces several Intel Science Competition finalists annually. Armonk is home to the corporate headquarters of IBM, MBIA, and several other large companies. Armonk has the problems common to all wealthy suburban communities including: drugs, rude drivers in large SUVs, sex, and alchohol.
My closest Armonk friend drives a brand-new Mercedes-Benz to school, and I take the school bus. We are going to be roommates at Harvard in the Fall. "

" armonk 101 up, 59 down love it hate it

a really odd town in westchester, new york. it used to be semi-normal. the racial makeup is literally 70% jewish, 25% italian/albanian, and 5% other. if you're christian, then you already don't completely fit in. the girls are generally pretty jappy, think they're special, and are used to getting their own way, and the guys think they're ghetto because they listen to 50 cent. many people are fake. a lot of people are also pretty pathetic when you get down to it, and anything outside their own personal bubble is intense. for example, the girls think blink-182 and afi are hard rock, they're terrified of metallica, and anything harder than that would make them cry to their mommies. if you told the boys that the same bands were cool, they would all listen to them and pretend to like them, and eventually the girls would pretend to like the same bands that originally scared them. nobody seems to be themselves, and if they actually are, then the town is full of nightmares. the majority also spend a ton of money on appearances (abercrombie is armonk's version of hollister, and everybody wears too much makeup), yet nobody is really that good looking.
that armonk girl is wearing seven jeans, an abercrombie shirt, coach shoes, and a juicy couture jacket. wow.
that armonk guy went to the galleria. he could have been shot. he's so tough.
armonk girl: "omg look at her!(points to random girl wearing hollister, american eagle, and pac sun) she's so emo!!!" "

But, there are some cool kids there.
and we do wear hollister.
