for history just find an article and hand it out. Basics just teach them. But don't just like walk in the room and be like "Get down, put leg like this, now like this...", break the ice and give them some demonstrations of what it looks like. The way I learned how to listen to the beats was simply by counting with my fingers and listening, get a good song that people like then put it on and have everyone get their fingers out and see if they can hit the beats with the fingers. Then do with them slow toprock. Think of the way you learned and just put it together with them. Hope this helped.

Kiks personally I say don't teach them foundation because your foundation isn't that solid, and you might mess theirs up.

i think that ZuluN does have a point but he couldve have said it less bluntly.
perhaps ur foundation isnt strong, so try and get some of ur bboy friends to teach with you. split the pay, or use it for jam fees and tournament stuff or anythign like tht. good luck with it kiks |

even if your footwork isn't solid, I'm pretty sure you know HOW to do them so teach em anyway. plus if they actually start bboying outside of this class thing, then they'll learn on their own anyway.
so I would say to at the very least introduce it to them. |

i say you should start out teaching them basic moves... kick outs, cc's, etc. that's what my friend does; he teaches at 3 dance studios around here |

if he's the only resource the kids have, then they'd have to go with his footwork. but still, my friend recommends teaching other footwork moves before the six-step if there were more bboys in the area, ones with perfect footwork form, then they would be the people to teach footwork. but i guess in their eyes, you have the qualifications to teach, and that's what matters. just let them know what you know. if youre unsure about something, dont bs, b/c that would just lead to misinformation. good luck! |
