Food for thought - 03-26-2009, 12:49 AM

A martial arts student went to his teacher and said earnestly, "I am devoted to studying your martial system. How long will it take me to master it." The teacher's reply was casual, "Ten years." Impatiently, the student answered, "But I want to master it faster than that. I will work very hard. I will practice everyday, ten or more hours a day if I have to. How long will it take then?" The teacher thought for a moment, "20 years."

Mastering any art, if you're serious, takes a great deal of time.

Can't be said any better...for real, what we do takes years to master. Think of it as a journey and not a destination.

Its true, and I've heard that tale before. Mastering an art is not just a physical task, but a mental one as well. If you spend all your time training your body, your mind will never be able to grasp the necessary concepts to further you skills. If you, however, devote enough time for rest and recuperation, your mind will take over and understand the concepts it observed through your physical training. In this way, balancing mind and body...as well as a tenacious and patient spirit, mastery will come.
