I read this article or whatever on koreanroc talking about history of bboying and such. It had said that during the time like the 70's kung fu movies were real popular so alot of the moves seen were taken from it and put into bboying. I'll have to find the article again.

some moves came from brazilian kung-fu. i think the flare and air flares come from it. the air chair and the pike come from it. the helicopter. i think the penny might, too.

Old Jackie Chan movies have a lot of fight choreography that looks like bboying. I've seen coindrops, 2 step, swipes, as well as other tricks in general. When I watch those old movies now I'm just thinking "Damn, I wonder if I can use some of those moves in my set".

Kung Fu was definitely an inspiration to bboys. Coindrops are from Kung Fu...and to a certain extent I guess windmills are too. But that might be stretching it too far.
Kip ups, definitely. Flares and stuff are probably from gymnastics. |

Conversely, a lot of karate moves can become bboy moves if you use them the right way. If you watch Bboy Issue from Morning Of Owl Crew, it looks like he does Wushu or something on stage, for real. If you can combo kicks well with footwork/toprock, it can look pretty cool.
