Biting -
12-28-2008, 02:51 PM
ok I have a huge bone to pick about biting. Yes if you do a certain move it is biting. Lets do an example shall we?
If you do a one handed ninety spin >forearm freeze>spinning handstand the other direction> reverse leg swipe> knee switch> fish tail> etc etc>spinning flag (im sure you can figure out im talkin but physicx) then thats biting, if you do a spinning flag, six step, reverse leg swipe, knee switch, forearm freeze. it isnt biting if you take part of someones set and use it as your own. thats biting. If you do a six step a certain way or a forearm freeze a certain way it isnt biting. if you were to do a hong10 freeze his exact way his set up. thats biting. if you do it your own setup and add your own flavor to it. IT ISNT BITING. i wish i had the video from session where we got into a huge fight about biting because i do a tripod> tripod knee cross> thread the leg> got called a biter because someone else did it. I've been working on breaking for a year and some odd time. i know alot more moves than i can do and im just finally starting to hit the stuff right. So now people are calling me bboy shark because i "bite moves" which really pissed me off. i had a huge conversation and arguement (which i thought was on camera) and i was just going to post it but heres whatsup. if you do it your own way your own flavor it isn't biting. Stop calling anyone who does a spinning airbaby a biter (there are people who do it) or if you can hit an apple jack and put on leg around your head. its not biting if you add your own flavor to it, THE ONLY CASE WHERE IT IS BITING is if you either take their set in consecutive moves sex step headspin knee spin elbow spin to buttcrack itch. w/e but stop calling people biters over stupid shit if you do a "thread the needle" and jump into a thread pike freeze it isnt biting because its a foundational move and everyone can do it. Just because not everyone does it doesn't mean everyone will. Thats like i can do a backflip so if you do it your a biter. the point im trying to make is all this biting calling is bullshit and annoying. so next time you see someone hit a headswipe or a 90 nike, don't call them biters unless its needed. just as a test at my next battle im going to do a move that everyone can do. and see how the crowd reacts. i'm going to do a handstand pull my hat off and put it around my legs back on my head. if people call me a biter then i will come back re-edit my post with some new shit and new information. thank you if you have taken the time to read this and feel free to post up information about it. If you really think about it, biting isnt all that bad. I mean, doing the bite while the original creator is still in the scene, THATS bad. But, you know when the older generation ends and the new generation of bboys/bgirls come, some of them might take the style of the older bboys/bgirls. Then it keeps repeating like a cycle. Biting is kinda like a way to recycle moves.

That is what I thought. Biting is stealing somebodies style not moves. |

If people ever do that do the same to them. You can claim pretty much anything anyone does a bite because someone's most likely done it before them.

Biting is how bboying have evolved the whole time. Someone does something great then someone takes it and improves it. Take the windmill for example. It has gone from backspin>windmill>halos etc.. So biting isnt something we should be embarassed about. We should be thankfull for it. But i agree with you that copying someones set proves that you lack creativity. Thats my point of view. Have a good day ^^

I think it's funny when Ryoma calls biting on anybody who does an airchair against him. Hahahahah.
No disrespect to Ryoma though, he's sick. |

unless you change the set to make it match your style and flavor its biting (when dealing with consecutive moves) |

taking bits and peices of someones set or style isnt wrong, THATS what keeps bboying alive and evolving, but biting doesn't it hinders style and progression of moves. if you were BORN and people did sets exactly how you did them, youd become pissed because after all the time you put into making these sets, people come along and steal, to take a bit here and there is inspirational, to take a whole thing is down right gritty. |

Also, instead of totally going all out on them and trying to shut them up by proving them wrong, just walk away. And you win at life. |

no im not trying to shut everyone up, im just trying to get what i think about biting out and see how everyone else feels about it because there seems to be a wide range of what people think biting is.
some people say if you do a move thats trademarked by someone else, its biting. if you take someones style, or do a set that someone else does, or a certain move that other people do, is biting. i'm just trying to get a feel for other people to see if my idea of biting is wrong. if not then i'd like to spread the idea about it so there isn't so much biting calling or atleast theres a general knowledge about it. |
