sets; my veiws and opinions - 12-18-2008, 01:15 PM

is this in italic?
ok sets, i have no sets, but im from columbus and here most bboy just throw down something, freestyle u could say. i associate sets with powerheads, i know in chicago its like really into sets, but sets u just drill like power. footwork becomes less if u know its all someone does is there footwork a few certain ways. i just think sets make bboy look worse than we could. if you could pull a different run each time and yet each would represent u that how i like it. u should know the steps to everthing u have how and where u can move to another move.
and how i associate sets to power makes less sense to me. u should be able to pull a good power run because just like power moves power transition are pretty much only one way not going to be different.

oh well i g2g
plz reply

the sets that people use become freestyle br. Born doesn't just think of the moves as he does em in battle he will have had to have tried em out first before he attemps em. He changes his sets about like freestyle but u will have repeated steps 2 get it perfect

haha theres nothing wrong with sets. If you're all sets, i could see there being a problem, but most sets are actually combined with freestyle.. like i do mostly freestyle with one or two combos or intros i came up w/. The thing is, you ahve to make your sets look natural. It cant be like "okay now i jump, left turn... now, and then blah blah blah" cause otherwise it just looks choreographed and fake. that usually only happens when you're trying to dance out of your element. if you come up w/ a set by accident (like i did), that is to make a set out of somethign you freestyled, then it's bound to look more natural than the generic view of a set

Well, me and crew don't really try and choreograph sets. We just freestyle.
What part of columbus you live in?

lol power is far from sets, its freestyled too. a noob power head will make sets to make do with a minimal list of moves, but when they get good at linking and havea mad amount of moves powerheads just flow.

Hmm I think Sets are a Crucial Part of BBoying at least in the Begining

most bboys will have a small set within there freestyle, like say, hong 10's airchair thread to elbow freeze, he has a set way to get into it, but the moves around it are always different. Or blondes windmill to 2000's, his set moves, but the power moves following are often different.

see what i mean. small sets within freestyling

exactly^^

I think routines with 2 or more people are the only time when you really wanna use a fullout set. even then, there can be freestyle sections in crew routines.

freestyling for 1 battle might work. But freestyling more than that is just plain hard. You start to repeat alot and just do some unorganized stuff that might not even be good transitions to each other. You need sets to have some sort of ground to stand on, you can then just add in other stuff during your sets.

hmmm....
ok i guess sets being a ground to be on makes sense, combos i know people will thro out something and try and put some combo in, i even do that sometimes i only have one combo tho swipes to spinning a pressed elbow freeze. so sets are kinda like a less specific freestyle u have to put parts of sets together. ok and about powerheads g-raf put that beautifully, but i had that view for all sets, i could thro a power run but i could do alot better one if i had a set, so i want to c someone who normally does sets do one of there sets then do a freestyle run. theres a vid of me in online battles its freestyle.
