New B-boys > Old school B-boys - 12-13-2008, 10:00 PM

First off, I am not ripping on Old school B-boying because I know without them, we wouldn't have b-boying and they laid down foundation. However, I'm really sick of people who stereotype a lot of b-boys like Physicx and Ronnie as just doing gymnastic routines. I also understand that there are people who just have no style and do displays of upper body strength and power moves. But I hate it when people say that the b-boys today are just gymnasts and only old school was how its supposed to be done.

Anyway this guy was on a Physicx video saying all he did was gymnastics crap and it kinda pissed me off because Physicx is a b-boy I enjoy watching. I also do like old school breaking so I went on another video and he kept throwing that idea around and then yeah it turned into a flame fest

But what do you guys think? What generation of b-boying is better?

one of the reasons i don't like to WATCH old school stuff like that is that it just gets too repetitive

well of course new school cuz we got people with style and power where as back then there werent as many powermoves but what would breaking be if u couldnt add so many new moves to it if it just stay the same and never got new stuff added it would have eventually looked dumb cuz most the moves that are old school dont take to much practice

well new school and old school
two whole different styles of this art
in the end its still bboying, i dont get why you even wanna compare
new gen and old gen gives props to each other, and accept each other most of the time haha

the new generation came out with moves no one has ever seen before
but so did the old generation when they started
like i said two whole different styles of doing this, and truthfully i find some of old school stuff more raw than some stuff i see from this new gen as well as the other way around

but ya. i repeated myself alot in the end
just dont compare, dont say who is better than who, in the end its still bboying and gotta respect and give props both ways, two whole different styles

Are you kidding me that battle was sick! Nothing like seeing two top crews coming clean and trying to one up each other. The last set killed!

A product of my imagination.

i like how theres a lot of fundamentals and different styles in oldschool. newschool i love all the power, freezes, and just the things that make you yell and go crazy. if i had to pick, id say newschool. but its just my opinion cause thats what im used to watching

hmmm... i think that new school brings versatility to the dance... it's evolving it, bringing new ideas and styles to the foundation that old school left. I personally enjoy new school bboying more, because it's what i usually see and how i usually break. Also, i personally think its just an expansion of old school.. its sort of like...

say your new to a school with no bboys. dancers, but no bboys.

so you have a pretty good six step and some okay toprock and a few freezes and handglides.

you start breakin at a dance. everyone goes CRAZY for your breakin and they think its incredible because they've never really seen that stuff in person.

you practice every day for a full year and you go to the dance again. You're a ton better than before, but you dont bring as much new stuff to the table (well, you do. infact, more, but the fact taht you already introduced teh dance style weighs you down compared to the first time you break'd) so people don't find your dance as raw.

very similar. The stuff new school brings is, in my opinion, a lot more complex and harder than what the old school brought. but the old school was an original idea, something that had never been done before. New school is basically jsut an expansion of the old school, but it lacks the effect of "oh my god it's impossible to spin on your head" that old school brought, being the first to bring any move like that to the table.
