Poppers and lockers.... bboys? -
10-21-2008, 03:55 AM
Do you guys think popping and locking guys are legit bboys? I believe it's a legit form of dance, but I don't really consider them bboys; they just don't have the same foundation "real" bboys have. thoughts?

yeah, that's what i meant, they aren't, but there is a group that claims they are and it bothers me. actually, there are multiple groups where i'm from (NC) that have poppers who claim to be bboys. but again, no disrespect to them.

They're separate dances, each with their own unique principles and orthodoxies.

Since when were poppers considered bboys?
If you know popping and locking are two separate dances from bboying, from each other for that fact, then you know that they definitely aren't b-boys, since they can't be compared in the first place. They just happen to be part of hip-hop, that's the only commonality they have. |

Poppers = Popping
Lockers = Locking Bboys = Breaking I still respect them hella more if they are passionate about what they do. The respect stays the same the title just changes. |

In my opinion, Popping and Locking are both different styles of dance, same as BBoying. I don't think I've ever actually met anyone who that that Popping and Locking are part of BBoying.
The only similarity between the three is that they are all Hip-Hop styles. You would need to have different fundamentals and skills to be able to do all three. You couldn't just learn to Pop and then think you can be able to do a flare. =P Vice versa. Considering Popping and Locking is performed mainly standing upright (except certain moves), and BBoying is done mainly on the floor (except Top Rocks). Lengthly, I know =P Hope that helped! =) |

It depends on which definition of "bboy" you're using. But I agree w/ Chibi and Desi... they are all separate dances.

they are catagorized under the sub genre of bboying. Go back to your history books kids, both dances share such similar roots, to everyone they are breaking, to those in the hip hop community, they are lockers, poppers, bboys, but the problem is all three different styles are used in battles of the such.
Its all breaking to me, if you wanna split hairs, waste your tme. |

i believe a Bboy is any cat involved in the Hip Hop culture..
sure a "BBOY" is a breaker.. ie "Break-Boy" but a writer, or an MC, even a DJ to me is a Bboy.. that goes for poppers and lockers.. its all Hip Hop.. and yea.. my opinion on it.. hate it or love it.. thats how EYE feel.. |
