Warm Down Stretching -
10-20-2008, 06:46 AM
Some people don't know this, but stretching after a workout is just as important as stretching before. Stretching before prevents injuries, but if you don't stretch after, your muscles won't heal correctly. Stretch after for speed and flexibility.

Actually, one of the best times to stretch is AFTER your workout.
Stretching BEFORE a workout is not quite as important. But what is important is to warm-up correctly before a work out to get the blood flowing and increase your flexibility. When the blood is pumped to your muscles, they warm up and you start to slowly become more flexible. Also make sure your joints go through the full range of motion so that they become lubricated. Notice that you are much more flexible than usual while you are IN your workout? It's because of that. Do active stretches to accompany your warm-up as well. It helps. Don't do static stretching unless it's your intention to hold those positions, otherwise, do active stretching to accompany your warm-up. Too much static stretching before your workout is detrimental because it temporarily decreases the amount of energy you can generate from contracting your muscles by making you more relaxed. |

That is exactly what I wanted to type. But my phone limits the amount of characters in one message for some reason. Actually, I think it is the browser's fault. Thank you for chipping in. Have you ever read "Living The Martial Way"? Read it.
