does music affect your bboy? -
10-20-2008, 12:49 AM
i have noticed lately that the type of music affects how well i perform when i bboy. if its something very upbeat or along the same lines as apache-incredible bongo beat, then i perform well but let some music like james brown come on then i start to suck. does any1 else have the same problem?

Well the music definitely affects me in the sense if I hear something like "Dancing in the Moonlight" (<-- fav song) then I find my dancing is more up-beat and "happy" although some other songs make me dance more aggressively. Music always affects dancing, not just BBoying.

I don't really own a bboy, if you mean my crew, I don't think it effects them. They can still rock the beat.

Nope. I actually like dancing to James Brown better, makes me feel more creative. Plus hitting the part of Apache that isn't the bongos makes me feel mad cheesy and boring. I can rock any beat though... Try dancing to songs like Toprock & Roll by Mr Wiggles, it'll help you adapt to the unfamiliar.

songs have moods, if they don't affect you, i don't know what you're doing out there. i see dancing as a form of response to the music that's playing. if you're dancing to something slow and going aggressive as fuck that's like someone going up to you and saying
"how was the party last night?" and you responding "i like walruses" |

Beats are usually something different. For me to really just get up and start dancing, I need something funky, with beats that are really filled with the funk, or I need something heavy.
But all music is good. |

Music does affect me. If its a song I don't feel, I won't dance to it. Thats why I hate when therse a song during a sign up battle that I don't feel, sometimes I have to force it.

If there is no music, I just want to screw around with technique. Too obnoxious or fast, I can't think when I'm breaking and I just do whatever comes naturally rather then what I had planned and sometimes it isn't right for a battle, it just feels really good.

Freydom, try Battlestar Scralatchtica by Incubus. It's a three way battle between Cut Chemist, Shadow, and Kilmore, backed by the band. It's one of my favorites for practice. And the Gorillaz "Rock the House".

the song your breakin to should be your mini-anthem
if you don't like a song then don't dance to it, it's okay to not like a song |

Word. And yeah Music does affect me.. If I really digg a song, I can be really agressive, or just be stylistic.. really depends on the song for me ^^ Though, I dont see it as a problem.

i have my bboy anthem music that i can perform my best to. its called "Watch Out (malente's mix) by All Good Funk Alliance. my issue is that 9x out of 10 when you go to like a jam, its the dj's choice of music and you have to be so advanced and well adapted so you can dance to anything the dj throws at you. its hip hops play in bboying.
