Am I a fake?... -
10-16-2008, 08:50 PM
Hai everyone. I was just thinking today. I have NEVER battled anyone real life or online, been to a jam, or been to a cypher in my 5-6 months of BBoying (On/off since December). Where I live There aren't any that I can find and I've just joined a group but they just do Showcase stuff for competitions, they don't battle or anything. They're choreographed and I've never done any choreographing haha. I also know what the dance is about and everything but.... still
if I don't do any of that battling stuff oh and don't get me wrong when I can get my license and go places I'm definitely going to out of city Jam's/Battles and stuff. But if I'm not doing anything except BBoying by myself or with my friend (Who showed me his showcase group) am I considered a poser? Thoughts and Comments please. (Nicely). Also how long did it take for you to do your first Battle/Cypher/Jam? |

By who?
Who decides the rules, who gets to be real and who doesn't? When their's a grand overseer who decides this shit, and people take notice.......then you gotta start worrying about the dance, not yourself. You're real. As far as i can tell from your post and your shit, you seem to be real. You want to do jams, the intention to battle is there. The only person who ACTUALLY knows if you're real or not, is, well, you. Peace P.S-I went to my first jam when i was about 3 months into bboying, but i didn't compete in a jam until last year |

And besides, I am sure plenty of Fake Bboys have been to battles and Jams/Cyphers, so, don't sweat it.

As long as you have your heart in it for the right reasons it doesn't matter.

According to Crazy Legs of Rock Steady, "your not a bboy unless you can hold yourself in battle"...
but I don't believe that, If you know what it is and why you do then your a bboy |

If you have the ability to hold yourself in a battle, does that not qualify? |

wth is with bboying having to with battles? Like honestly u dont have to battle to show ur atistic ability in bboying. Bboying is different to everyone, some like to battle, some dont. It all depends on the person, i personally dont like battling cuz bboying and also other dance styles is kinda like a sanctuary to me. Its more personal (expressing my emotions). so being fake has nothing to do with it. Be yourself and dance cuz you want to.

You have the issue that many bboys have. In my opinion you are no fake, you just have a lot of obstacles to face. I and many others are in your same place. I've talked to many people with this issue who battle all the time now and are great bboys, many of them say the more you have to go threw the better bboys you will become, so long as you stick threw it. As for on and off breaking. A lot of people are on and off their first few months or so. If you find a nice place to practice it helps. Get a good practice spot. If you have a place to practice you'll be able to get better faster, you'll get more motivated, and your breaks when your on and off will get shorter and shorter to the point of which you no longer stop breaking.

in my definition... a fake is... well a person who dances to solely impress the girls, brag that he can dance, and well over all be arrogant and can only dance so little and gives up when he tries to dance... im not saying that if you start dancing, you should not stop... im saying is... please don't be freaking arrogant with your stuff if you don't know how to dance... now thats what i call a fake! there are people like that...
