Tips for collapsing? Vid included now - 02-09-2008, 12:08 AM

Hey so I've been practicing windmills for a few days now, and I finally understand the leg movements and swing motions. My problem right now is that I'm not able to collapse onto my upper back...does anyone have any tips as to what I'm doing wrong?

Basically, I can feel my legs moving in the correct motion, but I don't understand how to collapse my arm. Btw, my millz are clockwise (right-hand stab).

oh ok, i understand...try this;

when you stab your hand, make sure you have fingers pointed to toes starting off in a baby freeze position, then spin clockwise on axis of your stabbed hand until your planted hand fingers are pointed towards your face. at the same time, swing your right leg towards in a spinning motion and then you should just natural roll on your upper back while your legs are swing around making the momentum of your windmills. i hope my discription is helpful and simple for you~~

Getting onto your upper back is very simple. Lean as forward as possible when you're doing windmills. You can touch your head to the ground or you can get your head really close to the ground. Either way, much of your weight will be on your head or your shoulders.

So should I have my shoulder touching the ground when I start it? Cuz when I start swingin my legs the only thing holding me up is my stabbed arm, support arm, and my toes

...at the point you are going to roll on the side of your arm or up shoulder then you will naturally roll on your upper back;
&feature=related

Don't have your shoulder touching the ground when you're starting off. You want to roll on to your shoulder during the collapse, not before the collapse. Oh yeah, collapsing should be bending from your elbow. I notice you don't even bend it and that's going to cause a lot of difficulty.

From what I can tell during the video ( didn't notice it before ), your swing and collapse are worst than I thought. First try to end up on your back. Swing your right leg under and across and swing your left leg up. You want a smooth motion with your legs open the ENTIRE time. This'll naturally put you on your back.

You want to be throwing your right hip into it and with your right leg straight. If you don't, you'll land on your hip or stomach. What you want to do is get on your back.

I know it still looks pretty bad but this is only the second time I've gotten onto my back w/o killing myself lol so yea I'm still tryin to clean it up a lot.

now all you have to do is swing that right leg upwards towards the left and the left towards the right underneath the right leg initial position with you rolling towards your left shoulder. bing...!!!

but I'm still landing pretty low on my back...like almost on my ass...how do I get higher? do I need to kick my legs up higher in the air before I swing? or is it all about power?

Turn into your shoulder faster. because you kinda pause then the weight of your legs make you mall onto your hips.

BBoying for 5 months.

Working on:
Speeding up footwork
Mills
Walking turtle/ crickets
1 handed airbaby
airchairs
Freezes (Pikes, Nikes, Forearm Nikes etc. )

yesh, its actually both; power and kick. you have to kick your legs in a circular motion high because the rotation isn't going to happen automatically. power by you have to keep being able to kick your legs as high as you can in order to rotate. just study the video a bit more and you'll get it. right now you are at the point just after the shoulder makes contact. good luck...!!!

well c b4 i started practicing millz i couldn barely hold a hanglide freeze and now i can hold it for 10+ seconds pretty easy. I guess it just takes time/practice

Also...am I supposed to swing my hips around to generate a kick, or do I literally Kick my foot around?
Here's another vid...lol.

I'm actually starting to think its worse than the other one (I'm tired lol)
But is my collapse good enuf for me to move on?

Currently Workin on:
WINDMILLZ

keep practicing holding hand glides, no matter how long you can hold it. the more you practice, the stronger you will get in your wrist strength and bicep somewhat. you get a good handglide in about a week or so, dont give up...!!!

have to roll your upper body on left shoulder after you drop and got your legs fully in the air kicked. just practice rolling from on should to the other one, then youll fully understand the mills...!!!
