Windmill Muslces! -
09-12-2006, 03:22 PM
Hey all. Alright, so tonight I rededicated myself (once again) to breaking. My toprock is dece but I really want get windmills down. I have a lot more fun when I do backspins as opposed to just rocking. Anyways, I practiced for two hours. My left tricep is KILLING me. Eventually it hurt so bad I just had to stop. Am I putting too much weight on my left arm you think or am I just weak sauce?
Peace

listen im not perfect on mills but heres my advice (this also can be applied to everything in life). i think your trying to hard. dont stress your self. basically if you are starting from the handglide position, im not sure if that even excersizes your tricep im not sure, but your going to let the momentum do most of the work. basically balance on your one arm with your other arm on its palm or fingers. and move your body ccw and if you know how to whip your legs around you can probably get the first rotation down which is a big step. make sure when you stab your left elbow it is practically on your low rip inches from the sternum.

Technique is probably a little off, but that will get better with time. it could also be the fact that you're just starting again. Give it a week more of practice, and if it still keeps hurting, try concentrating on tricep strength at the gym (which you might want to do anyways) or check to see that you're doing mills right

If you want to build up your tricep strength 2 things really helped me: #1 Do nomal pushups except bring your hands from the sides into the center your hands together in the center, this really focuses your body weight on your triceps instead of your chest. #2 Doing dips with a dip bar or whatever you can dip on will build up your triceps like crazy I got the fastest results doing dips of any exercise I've ever done.
Make sure you stretch your triceps out after warming up and after training too, they will be less sore, recover faster and build up faster. To stretch them, lift your right elbow behind your head and reach for your left shoulder with your right hand and use your left hand to pull your right elbow to the left. You should really feel the stretch if you're sore, then just do the same but opposite to stretch your left tricep. This should really help you man, and it's an easy stretch cuz you can do it in class or while watching tv or whatever, good luck with everything. Respect - GRIZ

Thanks everyone! All of your posts really helped. I tried more today and I found out that I actually didn't need to use my triceps as much as I had been, the technique like ya said wasn't down. I still haven't got it but I feel like I'm making progress. However, both of my tri's hurt HECKA bad right now haha! It's from all of that footwork and six-stepping and cc's and crap. Intense! I'm going to be mad ripped hahaha.
Personal thanks to cypherstyles for the stretching tips and strength building tips too.

Er mills take nearly no arm strength. Most of the effort (which you don't really even need to keep up once you're going) comes from the hips, inner thighs, and the crotch.
You shouldn't be stabbing for 930849320 hours and pushing hard trying to stay up or turn over or whatever. You're not even supposed to fully stab in good stab mills (you do like a 45 degree stab and start collapsing before you're even fully on that stab). forearms and nohanders don't even involve your arms that much so .. yeah haha learn how to do mills without your arms and you'll be doing them right
