Learning curve for mills? - 07-04-2004, 12:35 AM

I'm just curious on how long it took for everyone to learn their mills. i marked on my calendar when i started on my mills (21st of june) to see how long it would take me. i was struggling to get the collapse and the stab correctly and it took me almost 2 weeks to do just that part but i've successfully stabbed today! for some reason it just clicked! i haven't successfully come around totally on the 2nd mill but i can feel it right around the corner. i guess i'm just excited cuz i've always wanted to do mills...

anyways, all the questions on this board and the tips helped me out a TON. i wanted to thank everyone who responded to my problems as well.

it took me 2 months of fooling around and 1 month serious. Still trying to master.

There are 3 kinds of people: ones who ask why life, ones who look at life, and ones who live life.

In the end it won't matter what color your hair was, what brand of clothes you wore, or what size shoe you had. What you learned is what's gonna matter.

Having courage is when even though you know you are screwed and it seems pointless, you try anyways always seeing it through no matter what.

If life gives you lemons you don't have to make lemonade, you can trade them for oranges and make orange juice.

You see blacks, whites, asians... I see people.

Send the package and hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Smiles are contagious.

You laugh because I'm different, I laugh because I just farted.

I got all the knowledge I know today from all the people locked down in my basement.

it took me 2 months of serious practice... well... it could've been sooner if I had realized that I wasn't rolling correctly (cuz I got stuck at that part for a month ... which was not worth it)

...yea

peace

I never posted for so long...but w.e

lol i was learning mills like a retard for 4 years alreadi.. that's cos i was learning it the wrong way(sitting down position, or backspin start)..
damn it realli pisses me off jus thinking abt it lol, realli shud hv learnt it e right wat from the start(handgilde position).. recently i found out wat was wrong after reading guides on this site and my windmills are steadily improving now..
moral of this story? dun learn mills from backspin position, its easy to start at first but you'll realli learn the wrong technique from the start!
yup.. i realli could have cut down all those years if i were to learn the handglide start properly haha =P wasted.

Last august:
1 week from backspin position.

September: Started over, 1 month of playing around with collapse .. gave up, didn't practice them for a while.

December: another month of doing "individual" mills and kicking instead of using my hips .. started trying to go faster and do more than one, legs kept hitting the ground.

January: Learned how to stab and get to the next side but kept falling off the stab. Decided to go slower and could do smooth, linked, slower than a snail with alzheimers mills

February: gave up for a while and worked on airfreezes and style

March: the dance was coming up so I decided I had to get them .. started going faster again and fixed the falling off stab problem in 2 weeks (the very first time I linked right was when I was in a circle and I decided to just go for it)

April: refined them a hella lot.

May: Stopped stabbing, got them nice and smooth, started on nutcrackers

June: Got them very fast, got a couple nutcrackers, started trying to learn eggbeaters

Right now: Getting eggbeaters and pefecting them.

Formerly Pommy.

GROUND BEEF HAHAHahaha yeah

I'd have to see your stabbed or forearm mill technique to be able to tell what's going wrong

If you can't do nutcrackers or no-handers in general, 99% of the time it's a problem with your stabbed/forearm technique.

They have to be physically perfect =P

Oh, right .. yea I am him, and you're just stabbing too long and not really twisting your torso or using your hips .. You gotta learn to generate all your power from a twist-torque with your torso/hip.

That is, learn to not rely on your hands to get you through the link.

ALEX YOUR PROBLEM IS SIMPLE. TOO LOW ON THE BACK, when you collapse you are going str8 to your back instead of hitting your shoulder first. and the main key to nutcrackers is SHOULDER TO SHOULDER hopping... so just work on being higher on your back...
