Ok...btw this is the first time i will have appeared in BBOY.ORG !!!! YAY!!!! ok, but i would like to say...sure i suck at windmills, but that doesnt mean i am bad at other moves and styles!

first off,

1) i know what your thinking! why are u starting that crazy way?? well. it is much easier than the handglide way i beleev...and feels much more right 4 me!

2) I know i dont do toprock...my camera takes short movies...i didnt have time either!

but now the crunch...what is it about my windmill that just fails??? its strange i almost stop dead and fall down,....

Cool Most of us thought that when we started - 06-26-2004, 10:05 AM

Bruv, although that start method feels alot easier then handglide, i dont think it is. Many other bboys including myself thought that when we started off. Either way you will enter the handglide way in your transition from one stage of the mill to another. It is because you havent mastered the handglide way that you are messing up. Seriously, start from handglide, roll onto your upper back, not your neck (you go on your neck). Neck probably is ok in later stages as a more advanced windmill. Bottom line is, seems like you are learning to run before you can walk. There's loads of vids and guides on this site showing how to do a windmill starting from handglide.

Good luck, keep practicing.

peace

Ok, i agree with learner.
Your problem is your starting off a way that gives you poor momentum.

When you start of with the handglide position it gives you two things.
1: the RIGHT momentum that automatically pushes you off onto your shoulders and not your neck.
Just remember to pull with your not-stabbing hand, this gives you the pull of the windmill.
2: Fundementals you need for getting into the second mill. If you didnt learn from the handglide position youll have a hard time getting back into the second windmill.
The reason for this is because when you go for your second mill you end up in handglide position, and if you dont know what to do your screwed

What your doing right now (no offense i looked like that at a point as well) is flopping like a fish
Work on the momentum, keeping your legs straight and in a V, and hanglide position.

Yes learn it the handglide way its easier. But b patient you wont see progress the first few times you practice this. If you practice every other day for a month, youll see a little progress. But youll really see a difference around the 3-5 months into it. It took me about 3-4 months to get it down. Still trying to master it but i havent had much time to practice.

After you have it down like nothin, you can do it from your back or coindrop. I makin up my own way of dropping to a windmill without using my hands .

In the end it won't matter what color your hair was, what brand of clothes you wore, or what size shoe you had. What you learned is what's gonna matter.

Having courage is when even though you know you are screwed and it seems pointless, you try anyways always seeing it through no matter what.

that wayisnt easier than the handglide way, that way its more comfortable but it's MUCH HARDER than the handglide way, cuz that way makes u start spinning and the momentum u generate it's the other way u want to generate, so u have to do a lot of work with ur hips to start that way, and as u see, in windmills ur body should b like .·´ and not like | (its hard to explain this when u r still improving ur english) and the reason cuz ur body is like .·´ is momentum, and the way u start u dont generate momentum, or u generate it the other way u want so ur body is not going to be like .·´and rolling. when u get the right position of mills post again

Not to say anyone is incorrect, but depending on if you "Have" it or if you dont it might take you less time or longer time than what people tell you. I got my millz down in about 2-3 weeks.
Each person is different.

basically if you want to learn mills in 3 months do it hanglide, if you wanna learn mills in a year do it backspin style....

Not necessarily true, I "had" mills in like a week doing it from backspin, but they were weird and unsmooth (though they were linked), so I went back and tried to learn them from handglide and learn a proper collapse, thus taking me a month or so .. then I refined it and made them smoother, faster, cleaner, then I stopped stabbing, got no handers, etc.

You just get better form and get used to the motion better/faster if you start learning from handglide and get accustomed to it.
