Hey Pommy, I like your mills. I noticed something funny, did you see that the curtains started moving when you were doing your mill? Like someone said before, if everyone could do a windmill, we wouldn't need electricity. hehehe

Breakdance is an art through which I express myself
Everybody's jaws drop while they sit back on a shelf They're looking at me like I'm some kind of a sign And now they shut up, fuck off, 'cause the dance floor is mine |

Haha, I killed those blinds today xP
Anyways, I got a miniature video made (actually, I just took the killing blinds vid and took out the end of it, but blah it's a decent demonstration) .. it plays once in normal speed, once at half speed, then both again flipped horizontal for ccwers (since I go cw). The focus is on the push when you're on your frontside, for bboyze and others who have that triangle mill thing .. you need to turn your body directly sideways and roll onto your shoulders .. depending on how long you stay on your arms, your legs will automatically carry you at an angle (so you don't go in a straight line, but rather, a circle). See vid if you didn't understand any of that, and watch the torso during the link. |

here let me repaste this from that other thread
NOOBS! IF YOU'RE GOING CLOCKWISE Notice when Pommy rolls back into stab position, he uses his left arm to help catch himself, with his right arm. When he does, he collapses immediately. Look closely. Also, notice how he pushes with his collapsed arm, his right arm, to keep his momentum going. Notice his legs. They're straight, spread and swinging hard. This is important for continuation. Get those hips up just like Pommy has here, and they'll be just as smooth. Notice his back, he's rolling from shoulder to upper back to shoulder.. Practice it like that NOOBS! IF YOU'RE GOING COUNTER-CLOCKWISE (the second part, where everything is mirrored) Notice when Pommy rolls back into stab position, he uses his right arm to help catch himself, with his left arm. When he does, he collapses immediately. Look closely. Also, notice how he pushes with his collapsed arm, his left arm, to keep his momentum going. Notice his legs. They're straight, spread and swinging hard. This is important for continuation. Get those hips up just like Pommy has here, and they'll be just as smooth. Notice his back, he's rolling from shoulder to upper back to shoulder.. Practice it like that peace |

BIG NOTE!!
I've been giving this advice out a lot lately, and I read through my guide and realized it wasn't in there, so pay attention When you swing your "legs" in your windmill -- you're not actually using your leg muscles in either leg all that much. THIS IS IMPORTANT!! Imagine a fan -- the blades spin round and round, right? Well, what makes them go? The blades don't have muscles -- they don't "kick" themselves through the motion; they're rotated by the pivotal bar (I keep forgetting what it's freakin called), which is in turn rotated by the engine. Now, think about your body in the windmill. Your legs should be straight out and stiff -- just like the fan blades. Your HIPS are the pivotal bar: THEY are what spin the blades (legs)!! You MUST ROTATE YOUR HIPS TO MOVE YOUR LEGS, NOT CONSCIOUSLY USE YOUR LEGS THEMSELVES. Well, what about your torso? Your torso is the ENGINE -- the thing that decides where your hips and legs go and how fast they turn. Your torso needs to be actively torquing along with your hips so that there's a spring motion -- in good, fast, advanced mills (IE: barrels), your hips (pivotal bar) are "catching up" to your torso. When you roll with your torso, you should be going DIRECTLY TO YOUR SIDE -- just as if you were rolling around normally on the ground. You don't push up when you roll around normally -- you go to the side. Windmills are simply rolls without your legs; thus, do not change the rolling motion, continue to roll as if your legs WERE on the ground. The hip torque and swing will cause you to move in a small circle, generating centrifugal force. You do NOT need to stay up on your stab for more than 1/4th of a second or push UP with your hands! all you need is a simple collapse onto your forearm and and a push SIDEWAYS (following through with the rolling sideways thing) onto your SHOULDER and UPPER BACK. You should be leaning enough that pushing sideways will get you where you need, without an extra push up. KEEP THIS IN MIND!! |

Windmill... -
07-25-2004, 02:42 PM
Do you USe only 1 leg to kick out to do your windmill or you use both your left and right legs...??? some times i heard people saying that you only need to use 1 legs ,whether left or right, is eoungh. They say that after you kick out anyone of your legs from hand glide position,( and when your legs reach v shape and your roll on your back), you only have to push your body OVER and back to hand glide position after using 1 leg to kick out, to reach v position.. Is it TURE?????? can anyone kindly tell me?

I use both my legs to start my windmill -- one to kick under, the one to kick over.
I go counter-clockwise starting from hang-glide position. I kick my right leg up by pushing against the ground, and sweep my left leg under. Both of my feet are touching the ground initially; if you know anything about physics, you get more force and momentum by pushing against the ground with your feet for the intial kicks from equal and opposite reactions. I see countless people learning windmills by starting their windmills with their feet/legs off the ground straight from a hang-glide. Hang-glide position is different from a straight hang-glide. So what about those people starting from the up position? Simple, potential energy from height (physics: u = mgh). Pommy - that's a very good analogy. |

Hey, read through this all last night, watched the video over and over, trying to watch everything separately so I could piece it together in my mind. I tried my mill again (CW from handglide) and got my second kick so that I could feel I was getting momentum from it, but my leg didn't go back (up from the floor), it kind of swept and then when I was pushing off for second rotation, my legs hit the ground. I have a video camera but no cable and/or idea on how else I would get the vid on here from a HiFi8 tape. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
