legs in windmills - 09-10-2003, 02:08 AM

i think one flaw thats stopping me from getting windmills and a lot of other ppl's is that when you go from your back to your front. how do you get momentum. cause when i try to do it i like coil my legs together and uncoil them and it doesn't work. and though i know you're suppose to keep your legs spread apart, does the power come from the hips or the whipping of the legs?

Legs are apart and straight. I've found that the further apart my legs are, the faster I seen to go. The weight of my legs swing around along with my body, and it's just easier. I have a clip, I don't know if you want it, so I won't post it now, but I'm trying to keep my legs pretty far apart, and I guess it looks kinda decent.

And oh yea, you don't go from your back to your front... You go from your shoulders to the front. Don't coil your legs, wtf.

Don't coil your legs together as this will cause you to lose your momentum, when you go from your 'shoulders' to your front your legs should be straight and wide apart, the wider the better as this will cause a 'prapella' motion kinda like on a helicopter (not the move the actual thing) and keep your speed building up... keep practicing!

Hey this might help since I had kind of the same problem with mine a while back. Try getting momentum by twisting your upper body rather than using your leg power. You should feel your legs whipping around on your own, and you will need to use some of your leg/hip strength to keep your legs from hitting the ground, but if you focus on kicking with your legs you will over-rotate before you roll back onto your shoulders and you won't be able to catch up with them. I think the problem with a lot of people's windmills is that they do the first one and then expect the momentum to carry them.... you have to either build or maintain the momentum by constantly twisting your upper body. This is what helped me get my mills when I was starting out so next time you practice, make a deliberate effort to twist your upper body and keep twisting. See what happens.
