Nightfall's Stabbed Windmill Guide All Of My Guides Are Now CCW AND CW - Scroll down and you will find a copy of the original guide, except with directions and examples switched to the other direction. Nightfall’s Quick Note: I believe there are three key components to windmills; they are broken down into “sequences” in this guide. This is because it’s not just one part of your body moving, it’s a highly coordinated sequence of muscles firing that allows you to do each sequence correctly without pain. The collapse, twisting and torqing quickly, and locking your legs in a straddle with straight legs All instructors and guide-makers have that one thing that they emphasize because it helped them the most. Mine is your initial kick, which, in my eyes, all the other guides teach incorrectly. For CCW you sweep your right leg low along the ground first, not just jump up with it in the air. Enjoy the guide, do not be afraid to ask questions, this community and especially those who haunt this sub-forum have a great amount of knowledge concerning this move; and if you’re set on learning them, that’s exactly what will happen. Learn the freeze Watch the video, once you can CONSISTENTLY get into the freeze, then you’re good to go to the next step, you don’t need to be able to hold the freeze because you’re not going to be resting on it. If you’re having trouble doing the freeze, keep the mechanics of the move in mind. Leaning forward more and planting your hand farther back are two easy fixes, however be careful of the angle your wrist is pointing and make sure you’re not laying the side of your head against the ground (your neck should be straight) II. The Initial Leg Movement Ok, let’s get something out of the way. Don’t think of windmills as “kicks”; think of them as sweeps. Now that you can balance in that freeze, you’re ready to move on to the most difficult part of the single windmill. The collapse. Not collapsing right can hurt and make linking multiple windmills challenging if not impossible. It’s important that you try to envision the steps, or do them separately (this isn’t possible for all the steps) and really commit the collapse to your muscle memory. Far and away the best method of visualization for learning the kicks is to pretend you’re lying on the face of a clock. Your head at 12, your right foot at the 5, your left is on 7. That’s not too complicated right? It’s not. Refer back up to this while you read the guide. III. The Windmill Timeline – Primary Sequence. 1. From your freeze; your feet both “hop” slightly off the ground to the right 2. Now the reason why mills can be tough is because so many things need to happen at once. 2a. your right leg sweeps out hard from its 5 (the hop should’ve carried it to 4:30/4) position and heads towards the 2/1. It is important to note that keeping your right leg straight and low to the ground helps (about 6 inches from the ground). 2b. as your right leg sweeps into motion, your left leg (it hopped slightly to the right as well, remember?) bends in, just as if you’re about to dropkick a Chihuahua. 2c. so you’re visualizing this all and you’re thinking “When I kick my left leg, I’m going to drop kick the FLOOR.” Well luckily for you, I have a better idea! 2d. your left arm starts to fold in, you’re going to bring your left arm in right where it would be as if you did a chin up on a bar with your arms shoulder width apart. The back of your hand should be around your shoulder, or very close to it. 2e. your right arm pushes the ground away to the right, forcing your torso to open to the right. In more advanced windmills, this hand will be used to pull you into your hanglide spin before collapsing into the windmill, but for now; it’s just going to push. 2 Summary – 2a-e is all happening in the space of less than a second. All of your limbs have a specific role. You’re not clear yet though, there’s the next sequence IV. The Windmill Timeline – Secondary Sequence This sequence needs to be fired out of your muscle memory the moment 2a-e is completed. 3a. your right leg has reached the “2” on the clock face. It now changes direction, while maintaining it’s straight-ed-ness, to sweep up towards the ceiling, exactly like a side leg lift. 3b. As you start to sweep that leg up, you will feel a pull in your groin, sweep out low, just like you did with your right leg, except this time with your left leg that has been chambered, ready to kick (this one kind of is a kick, except it turns into a sweep and doesn’t recoil) Its very important that you feel that tension, or your legs won’t be straddled maximum and you will lose a lot of power. 3c. as your legs have all this fun, your torso is busy. Remember the collapsing of the left arm and the pushing of the right? These two actions combined with the twist of your legs equal a very strong force rolling you onto your left shoulder and onto your back. 3 Summary – 3a-c all must be done at the same time to avoid hitting your hips, tailbone, w/e. The reason why it’s so important is because it gives you the power to sweep up and away from your lower back/hips. Learning how to do 2a-3c correctly can minimize some HUGE injuries you could possibly inflict upon yourself. V. The Windmill Timeline – Tertiary Sequence Next is the restab. “Wait Night! You forgot your backspin/upperback section!” “Hush, noob.” “Yes sir!” There is NO portion of a windmill that you focus on staying on your upper back. In fact, the only reason why that’s in my video guide is to visibly show you where you should be. The reality is the moment your left shoulder touches down out of your collapse you wrench and twist your body from your left shoulder blade to your right as fast as possible. You can even do the arm motions while reading this, so go ahead and try it with me =]. (That's me telling you to actually do it, because it won’t do anything but good.) 4. Place your left elbow on your navel. Yes. On your navel. NOT IN THE SAME SPOT YOU ORIGINALLY STABBED IN FOR THE FREEZE. Why? Because when you impact the floor for your restab, your elbow will be forced over to the left. If it’s already in the proper position (the grove over your abs) then it’ll be forced OFF your torso and you’ll “miss” your restab. So plant it much farther over to the right when bracing so when you impact the floor you’ll be able to get back on the restab still. When you get better windmill control, you can start planting it normally; but when you start, over reach your restab. 5. Your right hand is unloved for this portion of the guide. It needs to stay out of the way. So you’re going to tuck that unloved appendage into the right side of your body. (think of where it’d be in a chin up) Your left forearm is reaching across your torso to the right ))> that way))>, elbow still on your navel. K. now hold that and read a little story. I don’t know if its accurate but it makes sense. . He turns around, braces the lance against something immobile and impales Lobotomy’s horse on its own momentum.[b]Your body = the horse. Your left forearm = the lance The ground that your left hand is reaching for = the immobile object. DO YOU UNDERSTAND? The force of your twist, against your elbow which is braced against the ground, changes the force going sideways into levering you up onto your restab. VI. Tertiary Sequence - Legs Let’s review the kicks up till now. Right foot is first, sweeps out, then starts heading up the moment your left leg kicks out to where your right foot was. That’s all we have so far. So let’s get the rest down 1. It’s very important to note that your legs stay straddled the whole time, the force generated from your straddle is what makes this move works. 2. Now, after your left leg kicks then sweeps low across the floor (going back to the clock example) Let’s say your foot made it to the 12. 2a. Your left foot, upon reaching the 12, then takes its turn to sweep up. This step is very important, you keep your left leg perfectly straight, sweep up as hard as you can, THEN HOLD THAT LEG IN THE AIR BY PUSHING THROUGH YOUR HIPS 2b. While your left leg is raising, your right leg is maintaining the straddle by going out to the right (imagine a side leg lift, lying on your left side, your right leg comes up straight, that’s the same motion, except you won’t be able to get that same range of motion, it’s the same muscle being used) AND NOT ONLY OUT TO THE RIGHT BUT STRAIGHT DOWN TO THE FLOOR AS HARD AS POSSIBLE WHAT? MY POOR FOOT. Aren’t you excited? It’s story time! Big meteor is heading towards earth. Astronauts need to intercept this giant rocky menace, and put a nuke on it. It’s for the lulz. They decide they cant just fly straight at it and try to headbutt it (AKA "The XsL") This plan includes them shooting themselves at the moon, and the moon will snare their force and it’s gravitational field will slingshot them back around What happens next isn’t important, that bold part is. Your Right Leg Coming Down = Astronauts with a nuke Your Hips/Twisting Shoulders = The Moon’s Gravitational Pull Do you understand? No? Ok. Your leg can go straight for the ground BECAUSE you should be rotating your torso, which changes your leg’s direction (it re-aligns your hips) to straight behind you, and as you rotate more, straight up. That is how to sweep your legs. NOW PUT IT ALL TOGETHER AND YOU HAVE A WINDMILL. Some advice for linking windmills; some of this might get me flamed by other b-boys but this is MY guide they can go make their own! *pout* Once you can make your restab, however UGLY it is (but without letting your feet touch the ground), literally throw yourself into the next windmill and try to land a second one (your feet can touch in the end) Why? Because that’s multiple windmills. Multiple windmills, no matter how ugly, is a huge psychological boost. If you can cheat your second rotation, you’re drive to get the move cleanly will be intensified VII. Problems, and You Hitting your left hip on the ground? Your collapse isn’t clean, enough weight isn’t forward, its possible you’re jumping or “hopping” off your left elbow out of your collapse, causing your lower body to impact the ground due to the loss of clearance height. To fix this, you need to learn forward more when you do step 1 (the hopping to the right) you also need to be sure that when you collapse your left arm is doing work, not just planted there for fun. Hitting your tailbone on the ground? This is the exact same problem as above, except your managing to muster a little more torque, so you clear your hip but you slam your tailbone. Make sure your right leg changes direction and surges UP when it gets to the “2” and that your legs both stay straight and straddled to maximize the amount of force they send upwards (which in turn drags your lower torso away from the ground) Wrists hurting? Be sure your fingers are pointing as much forward as possible, your wrist doesn’t bend certain ways. Landing and raking your lower spine on the ground? Its your hips. Be sure your legs kicked correctly and are locked in a straddle. After you kick your left leg under, it’s time to pelvic thrust towards the ceiling. Just one giant shag motion. Is your left hand being smashed? Don’t rotate your torso before your legs kick. Also stop arching your back. Both lead to your pointy part of your shoulder meteor smashing the top of your hand. Your legs lead, your torso then unwinds. Is your left shoulder a dark shade of purple? Same problem as in above, you’re just missing your hand and meteor smashing the floor. Same fix, keep in mind legs sweep first, they stay locked, your body doesn’t arch, it stays in a “hollow” (For all you gymnasts out there) CLOCK WISE CLOCK WISE CLOCK WISE I. Learn the freeze II. Those are weight lifting gloves....got em at sports chalet but i know big 5 and basically any decent reputable sporting goods store should have them i would like tor emind you not to use biking gloves, the padding isnt in the inner knuckle, where as weight lifting gloves are i used biking gloves for the longest time (they're also the wrong material for going against lino or concrete, not very padded) and i have permanent calluses where the pressure points are so yeah, WEIGHT LIFTING gloves, i try to never dance witohut them Theres no harm in starting them now, these can take months and sometimes a year to learn properly |

Hey man if you go back to my last vid I can do continuous windmills but the problem for me is(Im clockwise so I stab with my right hand), when I get into my 2nd windmill I don't get up high enough to be able to push with my left hand which makes me depend on the torquing of my hips a bit more which makes my windmills a bit slow at times(when stabbed). Do you have a tip for this?"

I watched your video, took me a while to find, im like a tard right now, so tired XD I'm sad to say the video was too dark for me to see your arms, which is where i suspect your form could use a little tweaking however you already nailed it on your legs, straddled more, and really its a sweep more than a kick, both of your legs are going bent and thrusting out instead of sweeping up... but dont worry too much about that, the legs straightening out comes with time, once your body trusts itself to generate enough torque to safely get your legs around without smashing them into the ground (ur body knows when ur legs are straight and u crash the crash is more painful on the extremities you hit) so i realy just say practice...i want another vid tho so i can watch your arms, i think there might b something ther that can help u generate more torque which in turn will help ur legs do the restab drill in that guide^, use ur feet, use everything, but make sure ur legs are straight and in a straddle, build those muscles up when ur done or before u do ur windmill zerg rush training :P ya new video in daylight kk I look forward to it street |
