The Easy Way to Rip Songs From Online Videos - 12-24-2006, 02:19 AM

There are three different techniques to ripping songs from videos. You can try JP's version located here, or you can try my simple and efficient version. I also included the incredibly difficult technique number three. I don't recommend it though.
Both of my versions need Audacity, a free open-source audio editor.
Download Audacity: Here

TECHNIQUE ONE:
Open Audacity
You need to click Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O tab and set both the
playback and recording devices to your inbuilt sound or the sound card
you want to use. This is basically the device your computer uses to play the sound.

Then you need to go back to the main screen and to the dropdown input selector on the Mixer Toolbar
and select "Stereo Mix" or whatever the source option is called that
records the output from the computer. This option may also be called
"wave out", "sum", "what U hear", "loopback" or other names, but is probably called stereo mix.

When you press the Record button, Audacity will capture whatever sound
is playing on your computer's speakers. So press record, start the video, and once the video is over press stop. Then go to file export as OGG or .wav, recommend .OGG and open it with iTunes or something. And there you go, you have your music file.

INCREDIBLY HARD TECHNIQUE NUMBER TWO:
Alternatively, you can instead use a cable to connect your computer's
green line-out (speaker) port to its blue line-in port, and choose line-in
as the recording source in Audacity's dropdown selector. If you do this,
you'll need to double the line-out port with a stereo single to double
connector if you want to listen while you're recording. But I doubt any of you understood that haha so just use the first technique.

Ok i hope this helped. If you have any questions just post your problems here and I'll check everyday and try to help. Oh and feel free to suggest any changes.

yea just get audacity. it's the best program out there AND it's open-source so no problems. Shareware is very annoying...stupid "PURCHASE THIS PROGRAM" nag screen.

Open-source ALWAYS pwns shareware.

hmmm it shouldn't be...did you follow the directions EXACTLY?
You might have not changed the settings right and you might be recording from a built in microphone.
And try exporting to ogg.

Mine is just bigger in case you want to download the Videos of youtube or something first. Hence the name How to rip audio FROM ONLINE VIDEOS. Besides audacity is bad quality anyway.

It takes an athlete to breakdance, but an artist to bboy.

Put it in your signature if your with me.
