From the Street Gangs to the Street Dance crews.
I remember my life before I got involve in the dance call rock (up-rock) a dance created in Brooklyn during the 60's it came to my attention that rock dancing the percussion parts of body movement , along with rock songs such as just begun,
Shaft in Africa, crystal world, BT express, rock Creek Park, rare earth get ready,
sex machine, life and death and Listen to me were most popular for dancing rock by youth of the 60's in Brooklyn., and then later through out boroughs around New York City area
living in Bushwick Brooklyn New York in the 1970’s how I got into gangs just to fit in. Do to the fact that I was a new kid on the block and it was what everyone on the street block was in to well most of the kids that I met, when I came to the neighborhood I guess that being in gang it was what was happening in order to feel protected from most of the bullies around the neighborhood not to mention that it was also a problem that I brought with me while living in the south side of Brooklyn since I was ten years old living in my old neighborhood.
At the age of fourteen I started to put two and two together and started to relies that by me being involve with gangs I was putting my life in jeopardy and only brought problems to my life and that I was also putting my parents through difficult times and hurting them emotionally it was when I needed to get away from the gangs and find something better to do with my life so I decided to walk away from the gang
getting away from the out law look was something that was going to take some time and I was going to make the best of my effort to make it happen .
In the late 1974 and a couple of month into the dance and the party thing and had been convince that the combat boots were not fitting in.
I went to this dance at a church hall were I saw a couple of guys rocking the dance rock was not new to me because back in the neighborhood where I came from before I moved to Bushwick Brooklyn I saw a couple of guys dancing rock I was only 9 years old at the time and probably saw this dance at least three or four time back in 1969 in Williamsburg the south side of Brooklyn
it was a dance that everyone admired in the 1970’s next to the dance call the hustle the hustle dance was the relaxation of the dance rock and the slow dance was the break away from the hustle and the rock dance.
By now this dance had caught my full attention I started to dress like a rocker which was slacks, the flat pointy shoes and the Chinese collar shirts with the push-back hair style many would say today that the dance rock was a dance converted from outlaws to rocking
what got me involve in this dance rock there were four guys started to rock and all of the suddenly they turn on each other two against two three of them were pretty skilled they other young man did not had the skills he got burnt pretty bad and stepped away leaving his buddy dancing against the other two from the upper knickerbockers ave the one dancer was not giving up what was also keeping him going was that he had the crowd supporting him because the place this battle took place was in linden park and the happen to be the terotory of the one guy who was dancing against the other two guys it was when I saw the opportunity that I was looking for a chance to let myself be notice and show my skills for the first time ....
the person became CUS and he named me Buz there you now know how I got the name buz It’s a piece of my rocking history .
Anyway he asked me If I can compete in this rock contest in this place call st. Barbara he told me that it was a $100.00 dollar contest $50.00 for me and $50.00 for him and sure enough that was not the way it went we lost we place fourth as partners
In may of 1976 we converted the name from Knight Breakers to Touch Of Rock but the majority of the members of the Knight Breakers didn’t really agreed with the change of the name but I told them that the reason why I want to change the name was because the crew knight breakers did'nt only represent rocking it had also other things that I did'nt want to be part of ..
As you can see the crew Touch of rock was founded and establish in 1976... It was than when the crew touch of rock started to flash all kinds of shirts lettering and styles... in may of 1977 the crew Dynasty Rockers came aboard with members like Danny Boy , Carlos , Black Tony , and Manny , Now these names were no strangers to us because during the times before the rock crews came about , these cats were rocking individual....
anyway these are clips of my book that will be out this summer man you need to read the book for the rest of the info..
