Theres nothing better than the cypher. Where you can dance all your worries and troubles away. Makes you feel like nothing else matters besides dancing.. This is why I Bboy.
you should check out the battle with rob and elmo at hodown... plus my footage of me vs mooncricket... which is somewhere located round here... only see it as a resource to get an idea of what burning is... and how to use it... and dont be bitin our burns either... we went through a lot of studyin to get those down... besides stick with what you know... for example... how many ways can you fuck with a bow and arrow...? a baseball bat...? a sword...?

well i guess you can say its more like studied and thought of our own... we think up an idea of what to use and use it differently... plus some of the burns we use are based off what king uprock... buz... breakeasy... and amigo do... and many more... plus we have individual ones where we later found out was used by another og rocker and expands our minds on what we can do with it... its a trip really... but we pay homage to those guys cuz they are what we studied from and they KNOW US...
when i say dont be bitin our burns... dont be usin it move for move... get the idea down and use it differently... just like i said in the other post how may ways can you use a gun as an example yet still applyin to the beat...? can you do it differently on other songs...? what kind of gun are you using...? how can you tell us what gun it is you're using...? is it goin to be fired on beat...? what if you didnt fire it on a cymbal crash...? what will you do then...? how would you counter it's done on you...? and there's even more questions that can be brought up on how to pull off a burn... whether it's a light burn or full on storytellin flame...
to have burns make sense you have to know how to act...
but remember this fellas...!! UPROCK IS NOT ALL ABOUT THE BURNS...!! ITS ABOUT THE DANCING...!! i battled cats who be doing nothing but throwing the cock at me and they get their asses destroyed by outdancing them... people will jsut forget that ure even battling someone if ure that good of a dancer... trust me... hahaha...!! man i wish buz and pjay would come back to the forums... hahaha...!!

this is what I think money just don't fall from the ski we need to work in order to have money... but before we can work we need to learn what ever job is that we are going to be asignto right !..
than there the carrer thing we need to go to school or some kind of trade in order to learn the skills that's required to do the job or profesion...
when I first started to up-rock back in late 1974 I got hooked to it by seeing others rock I don't really belive that it was the dance that got my attention what got my attention was the girls that drew over the rockers and the attention that it drew thorst the individual dancing ... man I needed to get a part of that fame I wanted to be reconized in my neighborhood and especially from all the chicks I remember being introduced to this girl by the name of wanda who was a friend of my sister that was seeing this person that rocked back in the days .. and all she talked about with my sister was how such individual danced so I wanted to impress her and started to dance which that also came with a change of hobbie from gang busting to dancing...
anyway to make the long story short I needed to bite well is that what you call it in these days well back than we called it learning from someone else something that I had no clue to do ...
there's nuttin wrong with bitting just as long as you don't look like a CLONE today many rockers are taking the dance rock in just concentrating on just that one style.... NEVER I OR MY CREW TOUCH OF ROCK ....we never looked like them cats we took what we learned and turn it into what we can do with it ... no one today can say that the way I ( BUZ ) or Noel from touch of rock,,, ROCKS like any rock crew out here today or any rock dancers looks today as we start to introduce the rest of the members of the crew touch of rock you will see that we each have our own style.. back than we never looked like clones .. today people are try to tell people how to rock and how to look and how's is done... WRONG !!
Like I said learn the basic from an original rocker and than run with it just like many of the boroughs did in the pass they went to brooklyn learned the basic and ran with it ..that's why today when you come across with some of the og they have a different style than what the DYNASTY ROCKERS AND THE TOUCH OF ROCK did back than .. is not that these cats had learned it in the 90's is that they had created there own style !!!!

and about your question ... when ever there was a compertiton it was taken to heart the rock comp. was always set in a hall it was not a every week thing when they through a rock comp. you needed to hold that title for a month or two and in them two month every one knew that you were the king durring that time up untill it was taken from you onthe next rock contest ...well durring the from 1975 to 1979 the contest king holder were alaway between .. DANNY BOY ,, CUS ,, MANNY ,, CARLOS ,, DUZ ,, ROCKY NELSON , CHINO ,, BUZ ,, AFANSO , TONY , ACE , NOEL , SNOOPY , .. and going back before 1975 it was LIL DAVE , PAPO , LENNY , TEE , CUS , POOCHIE , SPARKY, EDDIE , ROCKY , PETE, RUBBERBAND , and many other...
but they never held the contest in parks or block party because they needed to make money in order to pay the prize .. and most of the contest were not always money there were more thropy prizes than money...
but no way like todays bboy comp.. because today every event there a comp..(contest ) and if there's not a contest today bboy don't show ..well back than not all the event had a contest it was special to go to a dance and there was a contest it meant alot to the rockers to win a contest..and they never called it an event it was called a DANCE !!

another thing about the dance events... are you talking about like club parties or like high school dance events...? haha...!! i think it would be fun for it to be in any of those kind of environments where everyone is having fun contrasted to to a bboy jam... where everyone would somewhat treat each other as enemies...
which leads to my next question... how did different crews treat each other...? i guess you can say like were they friends off the floor or like bitter enemies and such...? hahaha...!! well if possible are they any well known rivalries between crews back then...?

Touch of rock did not like Dynasty rockers .. MTC rockers did not like touch of rock
disco rockers were our allies Danny Boy thought he was the best rockers in the neightborhood and the most handsome boy .. manny from dynasty acted as he was to cool for any of the crews.. carlos did not care who he danced against Cus from touch of rock hated danny boy from dynasty rockers which today they are nieghbors..ha ha ..and cool friends I thought that the crew Dynasty rockers were a bunch of white boys trying to fit in which they had everything it took to be part of the compertition .. and of cause we didn't like the lil dave rockers because they were from the side of bushwick park where we did'nt even like going and on top of that LIL dave himself had beef with most of the members of our crew,,,
Mtc rockers had taking one of our rockers and drafted him into there crew which was the only member of our crew who betrated and do to the fact that they were a couple of blocks from us we could stand them cats.. in the other Hand danny Boy from dynasty was a watch woman he loved to dance and make the girls fall for him ... and than date them several from touch of rock ,, ha ha ha ha ha ha We hated that gigolo ha ha ha ha ..today I have a lot of respect for danny boy , tony , carlos and manny and especially LIL DAVE we can sit togehter and chat for hours and look back into our pass and just laugh ...man them days were the bomb... the truth is that if it was'nt for the rival it would met a dam... The old school Dyansty ,OG'S Lil dave rockers OG'Sand touch of rock OG'S today have nuttin but love for each other....
but by the sounds of that did it sound like we loved each other..ha ha ha ha ...
